Last night at Nocturnal Cyclist there was a young man who got stopped by the police for not having a tail light on his bike.
In some ways it would have been a good lesson to let him get the ticket, and possibly learn from this whole situation. A lesson learned the hard way, I guess you could say.
However, I had brought an extra rear light because I was towing the trailer, so I swooped in and convinced the cop not to give him a ticket. I think my helmet, bright front light, and generally being lit up like a christmas tree helped convince the cop we are serious about light and safety.
He ended up not getting a ticket because of fellow ridazz preparedness, and generosity.
This is not just an issue with the cops.
This is common fucking sense, people.

On a side note, I had great fun pulling the trailer last night. It was my first time pulling it in a pack. I will continue to collect the ridazz bottles and cans until I can afford a top of the line sound system. All your cans and bottles will be recycled and the funds put into a jar, then used for a bettery, a charger, speakers, and an amp. (If anyone has anything to add, please speak up, donations would be great)

Also, thanks a lot for bringing the cart along. The recycling part sounds great... We sure could use that sound system on our ride, to add a little more excitement, especially for our soccer games!

Great, I can use all the cans and bottles I can get.

Unlike the similar helmet issue, bike lights don't infringe on anyone's comfort or cool quotient. Ride at night, use a light. If only for the safety of cyclists around you.
Nothing rings the stupid bell louder than a bike without a light on a midnight ride.

Just to set the record straight, you can't get a ticket for riding your bicycle without a tail light. It is not required in the CVC. Having a front light, rear reflector, side reflectors and pedal reflectors are required.
Not having a rear light however, is stupid.

A white or yellow reflector mounted on each pedal visible 200 feet to the front and rear of the bicycle and a white or red reflector on each side to the rear of the center of the bicycle, except bicycles which are equipped with reflectorized tires on the front and the rear need not be equipped with side reflectors. All reflectorized tires must meet DMV requirements.
e) A lamp or lamp combination, emitting a white light, attached to the operator and visible from a distance of 300 feet in front and from the sides of the bicycle, may be used in place of a lamp attached to the bike.

So can I get busted for having clipless pedals without reflectors unless I glue some yellow reflective tape to my shoe?

If you read the code, it states something to the affect that you need reflectors that can be viewed front and back. They can be on the pedals, shoes, or pant leg. The thing is that it just has to be visible. So the reflector can be any size, as long it's visible. The actual code is in one of the first links I posted on the last post. Really it does help to read it, as boring as it may be.

I have reflectors on my messenger bag. Will that do?
Also, supposedly they sell reflective tape at the 99c store. So I'ma go invest in that!
