Well, we're already building two ghost bikes for recent fatalities in Orange County.
Now we have to make a third bike.
Get more paint, Ed.

I don't want to sound like a jerk however unless this guy on his bike was suicidal or didn't pay attention to the warning lights and the lowering of the train Arms. The guy had a good minute to get off the tracks...
so... WTF HAPPEN!?

You got it backwards
first you ask WTF happened?
Then after getting a credible, factually based response
Examine the evidence to determine if it was the cyclist's fault.

I was really hoping that this thread was going to be somebody asking whether s/he should ride somewhere or take the train.
Well...R.I.P., person who got killed, whoever you are.

My apologies. I should have been more thoughtful in choosing the title.
More info from another source, LBpost.com:
"a friend
His name was Chris. I know because he was a friend of mine. He was loved by his family and friends and we are all grieving. Whatever the reason for this accident, we are all sad because he is gone. None of us will ever hear him say how much he loves us any more. Please pray for his family and friends; especially his son, who is extremely devistated by this."

I doubt it was a suicide. I have a feeling the way it went down is this. The bicyclist was waiting for a train heading south to cross at the gate. The train crosses in front of him and he thinks the crossing is clear. He starts to head east crossing two sets of tracks and doesn't see another train heading north on the other set of tracks. He doesn't see the train that hits him because the train heading south blocked the view.
There's a video I saw awhile ago that shows this exact scenario played out. It was in Romania or some other former eastern block country. It showed a ped crossing two sets of tracks. The train clears on the tracks closest to her, but she doesn't realize that there's another train coming in the opposite direction. The ped crosses the first set of tracks no problem, but flies through the air on impact at the second. If it didn't kill her, she must have been seriously messed up from that.
My condolences to the family and friends of this guy.
RIP
