it does not show people confidently cycling on the road or correctly showing common accidents. i do like that actual riders are used.
i also like how the mayor's part has great production.
They need to take this seriously hire a production company. have people make up a script. i don't give a fuck if its not organic if*that's what there going for. other cities take this seriously because people are needlessly getting hurt/dying because of ignorance.
Wow! That nycdot is really awesome! I thought the 3 feet could have been like giving an explanation and visual of the 3 feet. But regardless, I'm glad we have it as opposed to not... BTW I don't have a tv. Have they started showing it?

Regardless of what i think of the production quality, they didn't show what giving three feet looks like. That's what they made the psa for. it's not a good idea to leave anything up for people to interpret what three feet looks like.
they didn't show what giving three feet looks like Great Comment!
Hey listen everyone,
I am supposed to get my hands on the original files and I am planning on making a re-edit of this PSA.
Any and all suggestions or help is welcome at this point.
These are some of my goals for the new piece:
- add music
- use more graphics
- better illustrate the hazards being talked about in the PSA (like the car door that opens onto the sidewalk).
- focus more on the riders than the mayor
I welcome your suggestions and anything else the Ridazz may be able to contribute.
Every time the distance '3 feet' is mentioned add the word 'MINIMUM'
Cut out the clip of the door opening onto the sidewalk and replace with a clip of a door opening into traffic, if you can.
Definitely show a very clear example of a car safely passing a cyclist. Even better if the car has to wait patiently behind a cyclist for a few seconds before overtaking, demonstrating that the cyclist is entitled to the space.
I felt like some important points (e.g. look for cyclists before turning, changing lanes, opening doors etc) were lost because it was just Mayor V blabbing on over dull footage of bicyclists. Make that stuff punchier by putting up bold text with clear examples of how things should be done.
Don't end with that soft "it's the right thing to do" bullshit. Replace with a bold text summary of the PSA - i.e. *minimum* of 3 feet to pass a cyclist.
Currently, I feel that PSA is way too soft. The harder hitting PSAs, examples of which are above, are more effective. So anything you can do to emphasize that cyclists are flesh and blood against fast-moving steel cages would be good.
Be careful of having too much info in the PSA. Adding in peripheral items dilutes the message and reduces the effectiveness. A couple of simple, clear messages (e.g. 3 feet minimum & look for cyclists before maneuvering) is better than 6 rushed messages that won't sink in.
im sure we're all in agreement here........i more fukin afraid of that random door opening on my right side, that getting hit by a car ............although getting hit by a car is a very close 2nd..........very close
