I'm still amazed that so many of us somehow seem to live through summer without a/c.

Supposedly it's 79 right now here in Silver Lake... I don't know if I should believe it or not because I'm sitting on the computer with sweaty hands instead of checking if outside can be any better.

Wish I had posted a ride earlier, it would have been cool to ride in this extreme heat at night. I was this close to doing it too. Some crazy freaking ride where we go to hotels and bomb their pools and scram!

It got up to 115 in the desert before I left for the day.
Luckily, the swamp cooler and some fans made the house an ice-box.
And the dry-heat is usually more bearable than, stank-humidity.

You guys give us shit about the Westside (and you are often right ;-)... but i've lived in LA now for like 20 years and have never lived further East than Sepulveda Blvd. & Pico. When i moved here, i used to work in the Valley and realized that it could be between 20-30 degrees different from the Beach area to the Valley. I figured, i could work in the heat but wanted to come home to cooler temps.
But Global Warming or whatever, i have noticed that instead of a couple of days a year where its been a little uncomfortable, its turned into at least a couple of weeks of sweating it out at home.
Finally bought a wall A/C unit for the living room. I've suffered enough! But haven't turned it on yet ... Ha!

its 88 degrees in Pacoima and its not even 10:00 in the morning. SHIT!!! Yo the Friday Night Delight was thinking of doing a NO SHIRT theme for August.Since its probably going to be in the high 80's at night time. Let me know if anybodys down. Maybe we could crash some pools.

Just got back from a 40 mile, PCH out/back ride to Newport Beach. Its cool along the coast, but as soon as I stopped peddling, my core temp went up and I started sweating like an iced latte glass on a hot patio.
So, ride all day along the coastline and don't stop until night!

@tinycities Yeah, I lived up there when I went to CalArts too. It sure does get hot. It was always sad when I would see a weather report and they'd say, "It's 80 in Santa Monica; 85 in downtown; 92 in the Valley; and 105 in Santa Clarita." Fuck.
At least the hills are not on fire up there (yet).

i've only met one other person on these rides that went to calarts, so thats rad! what were you in? i'm a bfa3 in graphic design.
and serious yet. half of canyon country already burned so this year i wont be suprised if it gets closer to saugus/valencia. it was pretty ridiculous last fall and most of us evacuated.

MFA Writing, 2004. But I knew a bunch of GD students and some of the professors, because that is actually my background (and what I do now).
I have a funny series of photos from my time there of, first, fire in the distance with a little plume of smoke, then fire on the nearest ridge with a wall of smoke, and then just fire all over the place with a super grey sky because I was then inside the cloud of smoke. Muy apocaliptico! That's when I hightailed it down to the city to stay at a friend's house for a few days.

yeah definitely! i know a couple writing people but they're after your time. i transferred to calarts in 06, so you were long gone [ they made me start over, go figure. i should have graduated this year.. went to syracuse for 2 years. ]
theres actually an mfa person right now that was originally in writing. gd at calarts is ridiculous. way too much emigre/90s/ugly.

Hit 120 up in Hesperia by the time I got my trailer back up here.
I was going to bust a double run, but I'll leave in am hour instead.
Just too unbearable with no A/C and open-window blast furnace.
Although if I'm schtuck in Montebello tommorrow, perhaps I'll initiate a water-ballooning on some unsuspecting ride!!!

Different day, same shit.
130 in the shade, 150 in the cab because homeboy still don't want to fix the A/C!!!
Guess I'll head over to the library, read a romance novel, and fall asleep for my required 10 Hr.
