German critical mass: Fahrradsternfahrt!
07.9.08
Wednesday
START TIME: 7 P.M.
Wednesday, July 9th, 2008
Meet at the German Consulate
6222 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90048
at 6:30 p.m., take off at 7:00 p.m.
Folks from all around Los Angeles will ride in critical mass clad in our finest lederhosen and dirndl. Even if you are not German (like most of us) come out after work and have a zany ride with our end destination at the Alpine Village. So bust out your polka (or Rammstein, whatever), dust off your fahrrad and have your steins ready....we ride like only those crazy Germans would. Ah yes, make sure you have your craziest bell/horn as they are required by German law. :)
So why a German ride? Well, the next day my partner in crime and I will be going to Passau, Germany for a non-competitive bike tour with a group of sarcoma advocates. We ride all the way to Vienna, Austria!!! The group, the Liddy Shriver Sarcoma Initiative is a grass-roots organization that raises awareness of sarcoma (= a rare form of cancer) to the public as well as raising money for sarcoma research. Research money that is badly needed thanks to Bush and his finite wisdom to cut funding to NIH.
So I thought it would be fun to do an extended German ride here in Los Angeles. Don't worry this won't be a beg-a-thon, I just want you to have fun. If you want to donate for the ride you will have the opportunity at the end of the ride at Alpine Village.
Ride is approximately 19 miles, route TBA
P.S. No Nazis, nazis suck.
TO GET BACK TO THE START ON PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION IF YOU ARE TOO DRUNK AND/OR TIRED TO RIDE BACK
Catch the MTA 550 Bus on the NE corner of Vermont Ave. and Torrance Blvd., and get off at San Vicente Blvd./Fairfax Ave. Bike North on Fairfax and make a left on Wilshire.
PLEASE NOTE: THE LAST MTA 550 BUS FOR THE NIGHT LEAVES THE VERMONT/TORRANCE STOP AT 10:54 PM.
Please make sure to double check the bus schedules before going. We can’t promise that this will be running at the time you want to leave. Also, remember only 2 bikes fit on the bus bike rack.
