Year of the Rat, Los Angeles Critical Mass
01.25.08
Friday
January 25, 2008
MEET TIME: 6pm
START TIME: 7pm sharp!
PLACE: Wilshire and Western Metro Station
WHAT TO BRING: A Bike and yourself.
WEATHER: We consulted a Gypsy sage, for the low price of $20, and she said there will be no rain and the moon will be visible from 7pm to midnight. (Weather Update: National Weather Service is forecasting that the rain pattern will pass by midday and the evening will be clear with patchy clouds)
MUSIC UPDATE: Sir Harry will be pulling the music trailer, tunes to be provided by various riders. You will hear us coming nearly a mile away.
SAFETY NOTE: Since this will be a night ride make sure you have a front white light that flashes, or remains static, and a rear red flashing light.
We welcome the Year of the Rat.
Wear red in celebration of the Lunar New Year. Or wear a Rat costume. Bring drums, whistles, cymbals or other noise makers.
According to legend the Rat was the first to cross the swift river (by hitching a ride on the back of the Ox) in a contest commemorating the Jade Emperors Birthday. Thus the Rat became the first year in the 12 year Lunar calendar. The Rat year is full of opportunities, prosperity and promising prospects. Though it will be marked by speculation and fluctuations in the prices of commodities.
Famous People born in the Year of the Rat (1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996) Alyssa Milano, Cameron Diaz, Charlotte Bronte, Daryl Hannah, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennie Garth, Kristen Scott Thomas, Lauren Bacall, Lucrezia Borgia, Margaret Mitchell, Margot Kidder, Mata Hari, Nancy Wake, Olivia Newton-John, Sinead Cusack, Stevie Nicks, Toni Collette, and Tracy Pollan.
ABOUT THE RIDE: A leaderless, easy paced ride through the streets of Los Angeles.
The ride usually, though not always, passes through: Historic Hancock Park, Larchmont Village, Hollywood, Pan Pacific Park, the Infamous Paint ball drive-by 7-11, the Grove, and the 2nd Street Tunnel.
If you've not participated in a group ride before, or you are new to Los Angeles and psyched that people even ride bikes here, then this ride is a good starting point. Come down, don't be shy, everyone is friendly and you will soon be riding and partying as if these were your old friends.
