Meet: 9 a.m., Heliotrope Drive & Melrose Ave. (a.k.a. Hel Mel, The Bicycle District), East Hollywood
Ride: 9:30 a.m.
There's tons of people running for Los Angeles City Council in the 13th District
(Hollywood - East Hollywood - Silver Lake - Historic Filipinotown - Echo Park -
Elysian Valley - Atwater Village - Glassell Park) for the 2013 elections, but only
one of them represents the voice of cyclists!
Get your bike ready! The next CicLAvia is coming on Sunday, October 7!
10 miles of city streets will be shut off to cars and open exclusively to
human-powered transportation from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Since this is the last CicLAvia before the March 5, 2013 election, we're gonna
come out in full force for Elson Trinidad for City Council, 13th District!
Elson is an avid cyclist, bike commuter and biking advocate, and is known for
getting around the 13th District on two wheels. He's done various group rides
since 2007 (Midnight Ridazz, Critical Mass, the now-defunct Ride-Arc). He was
also an early supporter of CicLAvia and as a member of the East Hollywood
Neighborhood Council in 2009 got them to be the first neighborhood council in
Los Angeles to support CicLAvia! He was also a volunteer for the inaugural CicLAvia i
n October 2010 and helped the organizers do community outreach in East Hollywood.
And he has never missed a CicLAvia to date! If elected, of course Elson will help the
organizers bring about more CicLAvias, more often, to more communities! Most
importantly, he wants to advocate for more safety and awareness programs for
motorists so we can reduce car-on-bike accidents as much as possible - and
increase liabilities and penalties for hit-and-runs.
Join us on your bike - doesn't matter if it's a road, mountain, cruiser, fixie or BMX -
at the original end point of CicLAvia on Heliotrope Drive and Melrose Avenue
(a.k.a. Hel-Mel) in East Hollywood at 9 a.m. We'll head out at 9:30 and ride on the
original CicLAvia route to the new end point at MacArthur Park, where we'll ride the
entire course (NOTE: The CicLAvia route has changed; the ride from Hel-Mel to
MacArthur Park will be with normal street traffic)!
A couple of things - we want to make a scene! Think of it as a flash mob on wheels!
Ring your bells or bring other noisemakers! WEAR BLUE AND/OR GREEN!
