DWP Festival of Lights Token Bikes-Only Night

START TIME: 6pm (updated with meet-up info below)










Just a heads-up that this Monday evening (November 19) is that One Token Night of the entire DWP Festival of Lights in Griffith Park set aside by the powers that be for us bastard bicyclists to rule instead of drool. And actually it's only a couple four hours, from 6 - 8 10 p.m.



I remember posting in past years about this event and a lot of the feedback is "fuck that noise" because the organizers continue to promise more bike nights and then fail to deliver. This year it's a bit better and worse. For the five nights after the bike night the route will be open to pedestrians only. That's better because that's five less nights of cars backed up down Riverside and Los Feliz and onto the 5 freeway spewing all that crap into the air. But it's worse in a WTF way because the brainiacs that came up with that idea failed to consider allowing bikes to participate on those five nights as well. Bastards.



Anyway the politics and posturing may be bullshit but protesting the event by boycotting it does little to help change their status quo. The more the merrier so to speak. Personally if I get worked up enough while Councilman Tom LaBonge and the DWPeeps are all patting themselves on the back at what a wonderful night it is for a bike ride I may spoil the festive mood by shaking my fists at the honorable councilman and use my outside voice in wondering why the fuck we only get 120 240 minutes and all of a sudden pedestrians get the following five crazy nights to themselves. Gah!



Having said that the festival is kooky and kitschy and corny but seeing it from the saddle of your ride is a cool unique experience, so be there and help enact some change.



UPDATE: If you're interested several of your loyal and subservient IAAL/MAF will be gathering at Fletcher and Ripple in Atwater Village and departing for the festival at 5:45 p.m. upriver to the zoo parking lot.
