GRINDHOUSE at the New Beverly

The monthly Grindhouse Film Festival comes this Tuesday. If your not familiar with this brand of filmmaking, it is the worst campy movies ever brought to the screen from the late 60's 70's and early 80's. So come join me for some fun and laughs at the New Beverly Theater. Meet at the Wishire/Western metro station. The ride will take us up Wishire to La Brea and up to Beverly Blvd. Prizes are a regular tradition on these events so dont miss the 6:30 ride out.

Don't miss our next incredible Grindhouse Film Festival at the New Beverly Cinema on Tuesday, October 23rd. We'll be paying tribute to special guest Larry Cohen and screening two of his early, rarely shown features from the 1970's - GOD TOLD ME TO (1976) and BONE (1972). These are both really mindblowing films, so don't miss this very rare opportunity to see them with an enthusiastic audience and projected from original 35mm prints!





Larry Cohen is well known for directing such cult hits as BLACK CAESAR, HELL UP IN HARLEM, IT'S ALIVE, THE PRIVATE FILES OF J. EDGAR HOOVER, Q: THE WINGED SERPENT and THE STUFF. He has also had a long and successful writing career, going back to his work on numerous 1960's television programs and continuing on to feature films such as I THE JURY, BEST SELLER, MANIAC COP, BODY SNATCHERS, PHONE BOOTH, CELLULAR and the controversial recent release CAPTIVITY.





GOD TOLD ME TO follows the story of NYC police officer Tony Lo Bianco as he investigates a series of seemingly random murders where the only explanation from the killers is the statement "God told me to." As he digs deeper into the mystery he begins to uncover a bizarre tale that is one of Cohen's most interesting works. Watch for a young Andy Kaufman as a police officer who loses it and turns murderous during a parade.





BONE, Cohen's first feature, stars Yaphet Kotto as a thief who breaks into the home of a wealthy, happily married couple in Beverly Hills and soon finds that all is not as it seems. Not really an exploitation film, this is a sometimes surreal character-driven story that is full of twists and turns. Rarely screened, this is one that shouldn't be missed.





The event starts at 7:30pm, and admission for the double feature (plus a reel of rare exploitation trailers and a free raffle) is only $8.00.
