Tuesday Night Memorial and Safety Ride
09.27.11
This Tuesday night ride will be dedicated to the two cyclists who were tragically killed last week in car-bike accidents while riding in
Pasadena.
Alan Deane, a 61-year old cyclist and well known in the Glendale cycling community, was riding without a helmet along the sidewalk on
Colorado Blvd while crossing Terrace Drive when he was hit by a car turning left.
Jocelyn Young, a 24-year old cyclist from Oregon, was riding with her boyfriend along Los Robles Avenue when she fell off her bike and
was run over by a vehicle. The driver, who was allegedly drunk, continued without stopping but was later arrested because of a witness
who followed him to his house.
We'll ride to Pasadena and visit the sites where the accidents took place and have a moment of silence for the two victims.
This ride will have a special emphasis on safety and defensive riding. We'll have a short discussion on ways to prevent such accidents and
things our cities can do now to create safer streets for cyclists and pedestrians.
Please make sure you bring your helmet and a front and back light.
Meet at the Public Library parking lot at 8:30 PM. Ride leaves at 9:00 PM.
