The Griffith Observatory - Lights Out Los Angeles Ride!

START TIME: 6:00 PM, meet at Scoops. 7:00 PM, roll out.

"Everything looks better when the world is black" -- Angry Samoans

So, the word on the street is that October 20 is Lights Out Los Angeles night. Apparently the idea here is that at 8:00 PM, everybody in the city is supposed to turn off all nonessential lighting for one hour. The purpose is not only to save energy, but also to sort of remind people that there is such a thing as a dark night sky, with stars in it and stuff.

I know, I know. Nobody's really going to do it. But a few people may. Does anybody feel like riding up to, oh, let's say Griffith Observatory that night to watch either the stunning darkening of LA's massive light-spangled landscape or the stunning anticlimax of most of the lights staying on? Hmm?

I plan on doing it. Do it with me! Or just next to me! I don't care which!

We will meet at Scoops at 6:00 PM. Then we will have some Scoops. At 7:00 PM, promptly, we will start riding north on Vermont. If you can't or don't want to be there at 6:00 for some delicious, mouthwatering Scoops, just try to be there by 7:00 for the rollout. Remember, we want to be up at the Observatory by 8:00 for the big climax/anticlimax, so we're not going to dawdle.

Delicious boxed wine will be provided.

At 9:00 PM, there will be an optional sprint to C.R.A.N.K. Mob. Those without road bikes, track bikes, fun catchers, and/or strong legs my have trouble keeping up with this optional post-ride sprint.
