"VOICES OF OUR COMMUNITY," a One Imagination project, came out of a vision to expose local Long Beach area artists who have performed at our open mic, "Break the Silence". We felt that their performances needed to be taken from live venues and into the studio for recording! Break the Silence specializes in creating a welcoming atmosphere for first time performers, so we have stepped up by having several artists record their first tracks ever!

HISTORY:
One Imagination came out of Break the Silence three years ago and brought many of us artists together who were looking for a sense of purpose with our creativity and activism. As our network expanded, so did our vision for a stronger community by seeking ways to involve more youth in our activities. This past spring, we successfully implemented a creative writing and performance workshop called "Our Word is Our Weapon", where 4 out of our 10 youth have been selected to participate in HBO'S Russell Simmon presents: BRAVE NEW VOICES International Youth Slam Poetry Competition! The event will take place from July 19 - 25 in Los Angeles, where housing and food will be provided for all participants.

In addition to Our Word is Our Weapon, we have recruited over 20 youth and 13 mentors to be in our summer community organizing program called "YA BASTA! Enough is Enough", where they will learn about how to put their words into action!

All of this comes with a cost - mostly out of our own pockets. The objective behind this album is to:

1) Expose our local artists to a greater audience
2) Fundraise enough money to continue our youth programs

SO PLEASE COME OUT AND SUPPORT OUR LOCAL ARTISTS, OUR YOUTH, OUR ORGANIZATION, OUR COMMUNITY!!! =) =) =)
