We will meet at the parking lot of the Orange County Superior Court, North Justice Center, 1275 North Berkely Avenue, Fullerton, CA 92832 at 5:00 pm to ride to the Fullerton City Hall at 5:15 pm to greet the supporters of Friends of Coyote Hills.
For those of you who aren't familiar with the issues concerning West Coyote Hills;
West Coyote Hills is 510 acres of open space stretching from Euclid Street almost to Beach Boulevard, just north of Rosecrans Avenue and halfway south of Imperial Highway.
The land had been used for nearly 100 years by Chevron Oil Company to extract oil. The majority of the wells are now abandoned and the real estate division of Chevron, Pacific Coast Homes, is proposing to build 760 houses, a retail center and some developed parks on the top half of the property.
The Friends of Coyote Hills has been challenging the wisdom of grading, paving and "improving" one of the last areas of open space that might afford the opportunity to allow the natural environment to recover and restore itself to conditions that existed before humans changed the landscape.
We would like a large group of cyclists to be present before the last opportunity to express to the Fullerton Planning Commission that we would rather have cleaner air and water than more pavement, houses and shopping.
The last meeting for public comments opposing the development of West Coyote Hills takes place Thursday, March 18th, 2010, at Fullerton City Hall Council Chambers at 6:00 pm.
Those who wish to stay for the meeting should bring locks for their bikes.
