Topanga Canyon / Tuna Canyon Hill Climb

The Astral Vortex Ride. A shimmy up Topanga Canyon at dusk, back down Tuna Canyon by moonlight.



As the sun last glow fades over a craggy foothill’s silhouette, a rag-tag band of ridazz will take their chances battling oncoming commuters as they snake their way up the winding s-curves into Downtown Topanga. Occultists will break their skyward searching for UFO’s and Tantric gurus will look up from their frothy kombucha in equal amazement as the Midnight Ridazz roll into town. Think we can show those hippies some eff you enn?



After conquering the first hill, a well earned beer and shrimp taco break at the hillside home of this NefariousT is in order. I live in the flats so we can take it easy.



Now the real riding begins. Where before you were riding on a road that belonged motorized traffic, now take our chances on a road that belongs to mountain lions, coyotes and broken Westfalias. If your lungs still work, you will be amazed by the scents of coriander and lavender as you finally crest the hill to see the Pacific far below. With the moon as the only light, we cruise down the Tuna Canyon for what seems like forever… it is a one way road from the top of nowhere down to the PCH. Remember the race at the end of ‘Thrashin’? This is that road!



This is a social ride not a race… strong riders encouraged to bring up the rear and keep the group together. Slower riders encouraged to bring your lungs and some extra skivvies. For one mile you will be riding uphill in traffic with no breakdown lane… that means you can’t pull over to catch your breath!



This won’t be a fast ride but you will need a bike that climbs hills.

YOU WILL NEED A FRONT BRAKE, at least.

Bring lots of lights, it is dark up there.



No ridazz left behind. Cell phones don’t work in the canyon; carry your emergency contact info on paper.

When: the sunsets 7:08, ride at 7:40. Honest, seriously, we need to leave while it’s still light out.
