The Passage of a Few People Through a Rather Brief Moment in Time #355: Après Le Déluge
One or more persons during a certain period drop their usual motives for movement and action, their relations,
their work and leisure activities, and let themselves be drawn by the attractions of the terrain and the
encounters they find there.
It's a bike ride.
Started by user nathansnider and user theroyalacademy.
It meets every Wednesday at 8:30pm at California Donuts #21.
We ride at 9pm.
On the seventh year of this bike ride, you might expect:
- more inconvenient passageways
- more full moon picnics
- perhaps more "cover" versions of other people's rides, performed with amateurish enthusiasm
- certainly more amateurish enthusiasm
- pool halls
- bowling alleys
- dance parties
- imaginary histories
- scavenging for fun and sustenance
- more geocaching
- more oblique strategies
- more Oulipian constraints
- traffic median tea parties
- A medium pace (maybe not for beginners; certainly not a hustle)
- We're not in a rush; we don't need to run every light.
- Maybe some distance;maybe some hills
- Victory donuts!
Après Le Déluge
Sometimes, when we build a thing, it seems like we've made a lasting mark, a feature that will be around for
generations to come. Even if we are modest enough to recognize that our works are ephemeral, as all things
must be, we cannot help but feel that they represent some victory against the forces of entropy. But of course,
sometimes we don't plan very well, and the forces of entropy are happy to point out the flaws in our plan.
(about 25 miles; some steep hills; some off-road hiking)
ALSO: There is still time to order a Passage map t-shirt! And if that is not enough Passage map for you, there
are now bandanas too, in three different colors! Find all the details at:
Please note that pre-sales for shirts and bandanas end next Wednesday. While there may still be some extra
stock available after pre-sales end, these items (if they are available at all) will be slightly more expensive.
For those who have already ordered a shirt and paid to have it shipped, you may add a bandana to your order
without having to pay extra for shipping. If you choose the "Local Pickup" option when purchasing the
bandana and add a note about your previous order, we will ship the bandana(s) with the shirt(s).
