The Passage of a Few People Through a Rather Brief Moment in Time #349: Channeling
One or more persons during a certain period drop their usual motives for movement and action, their relations,
their work and leisure activities, and let themselves be drawn by the attractions of the terrain and the
encounters they find there.
It's a bike ride.
Started by user nathansnider and user theroyalacademy.
It meets every Wednesday at 8:30pm at California Donuts #21.
We ride at 9pm.
On the seventh year of this bike ride, you might expect:
- more inconvenient passageways
- more full moon picnics
- perhaps more "cover" versions of other people's rides, performed with amateurish enthusiasm
- certainly more amateurish enthusiasm
- pool halls
- bowling alleys
- dance parties
- imaginary histories
- scavenging for fun and sustenance
- more geocaching
- more oblique strategies
- more Oulipian constraints
- traffic median tea parties
- A medium pace (maybe not for beginners; certainly not a hustle)
- We're not in a rush; we don't need to run every light.
- Maybe some distance;maybe some hills
- Victory donuts!
Despite all our advances in scientific understanding, and the consequent narrowing of the realm we might
cede to the spirits, there is no shortage of psychics, fortune tellers and soothsayers in the world. Perhaps this
is no great surprise, as each would-be oracle promises us a connection. Indeed, we are all seeking
connections in one fashion or another - whether to something so nebulous as "something bigger" or as
concrete as "the other side of that freeway."
But while those who claim to be spirit mediums may dazzle you with flim-flam, beguile you with subtle
suggestion and lull you into trances with dim lighting, we here at TPOAFPTARBMIT promise to connect you to
the other side using only the humblest of tools - your very own bicycle! No crystal balls; no 35,000-year-old
Lemurian warriors; no introductory DVDs for $29.99. Also no ectoplasm this time, we hope.
(about 30 miles; all flat; one short off-road section)
**ALSO, PLEASE NOTE**: Next week will be Passage #350 and, as is our habit for every 50th ride, we will be
doing something more ambitious. So we are riding on Saturday, May 7th, and *there is no ride next
Wednesday, May 4th*. Further details to come.
