The Passage of a Few People Through a Rather Brief Moment in Time #322: Something-Something Hoverboards
One or more persons during a certain period drop their usual motives for movement and action, their relations,
their work and leisure activities, and let themselves be drawn by the attractions of the terrain and the
encounters they find there.
It's a bike ride.
Started by user nathansnider and user theroyalacademy.
It meets every Wednesday at 8:30pm at California Donuts #21.
We ride at 9pm.
On the seventh year of this bike ride, you might expect:
- more inconvenient passageways
- more full moon picnics
- perhaps more "cover" versions of other people's rides, performed with amateurish enthusiasm
- certainly more amateurish enthusiasm
- pool halls
- bowling alleys
- dance parties
- imaginary histories
- scavenging for fun and sustenance
- more geocaching
- more oblique strategies
- more Oulipian constraints
- traffic median tea parties
- A medium pace (maybe not for beginners; certainly not a hustle)
- We're not in a rush; we don't need to run every light.
- Maybe some distance;maybe some hills
- Victory donuts!
Huzzah! The Future is here!
Now finally, at the end of the day, you can loosen up your double necktie, put on the Scenery Channel and
kick back with some rehydrated pizza. Could there be anything better? Oh, but there could! What's this, now?
Why, it's an announcement for a hoverboard ride, hot off your fax machine, powered by your Mr. Fusion Home
...or maybe it's not. Maybe it's a just a boring old email sent over the boring old internet to your boring old
computer or smartphone - something or other about boring old bicycles? Sigh. The future is so hard to figure
out sometimes, but to alleviate your disappointment, perhaps you will join us tonight as we explore these
fragments of a future, imperfectly imagined. Or maybe it's perfectly imagined, but imperfectly implemented? In
any case, it's The Future now, is what we're saying, and things are looking bright*, so we'd better enjoy it.
(25 miles; pretty flat)
*at least until November, 2019 when things get considerably
Talk, talk, talk...
