The Passage of a Few People Through a Rather Brief Moment in Time #315 - It Could Work
09.2.15
One or more persons during a certain period drop their usual motives
for movement and action, their relations, their work and leisure activities,
and let themselves be drawn by the attractions of the terrain and the
encounters they find there.
It's a bike ride.
Started by user nathansnider and user theroyalacademy.
It meets every Wednesday at 8:30pm
at California Donuts #21.
We ride at 9pm.
While we endeavor to return before the last red line trains (around midnight),
it is generally not possible. Please plan accordingly.
On this bike ride, you might expect:
- inconvenient passageways
- oblique strategies
- Oulipian constraints
- disorientation
- reorientation
- "cover" versions of other people's rides, performed with amateurish enthusiasm
- amateurish enthusiasm
- playgrounds, pool halls, bowling alleys, karaoke
- geocaching
- full moon picnics
- traffic median tea parties
- rivers that no longer exist
- smell tourism
- Couchwick v2.0
Furthermore:
- usually 20-35 miles
- usually some hills
- a medium pace (probably not for beginners; certainly not a hustle)
- few stops, short stops
- but we're not in a rush; we don't need to run every light
- victory donuts!

This week:
It Could Work
As with most weeks, this week we have a plan. There is a route; it is convoluted. There are some destinations; they are fairly interesting. And it all might go according to this plan.
But this week the plan also intersects with certain spatiotemporal realities which make it not completely unlikely that the ride will not go according to the plan. We have not planned around those realities but are, instead, pretty much planning on traveling directly through them, spatially, temporally. Perhaps it is, after 6+ years of riding, hubris on our part to plan like this, or laziness, or perhaps simply confidence that even when it goes wrong, it still will be alright. Whatever the case, said realities will act upon our plan in one way or another, as realities do.
Or, then again, this intersection may not happen at all. Certain realities may be skirted (though, certainly, some reality will be encountered). And the plan, and we ourselves, will proceed.
(25 miles; several short hills; a fair amount of off-roading, including at least one probable hiking section; all dependent on if it actually works out or not)
