as of now, i'm looking to go into theatre. but i don't have the $$ for NYU or any school like that...

sfsu is known to have a good art program. i applied there when i applied to college 4 years ago. dont know about performing arts. although i go to art school now that has a big performing arts dept if you have questions about that shit. i dont know anything about the public school system though as i went all private [ syracuse university then to calarts. ]

SFSU man. I'm a freshman right now and it rules. The teachers rule. Classes are easy as fuck. I've got like 1-2 hrs tops of homework a night. And SF cops rule for the most part (at least all of the encounters ive had).

AWW SFSU!!! I was a gator and an RA at SFSU. It is a large commuter school so it can be a bit difficult to make friends, unless your planning on living on campus then it's not a problem.
It also depends on the weather and how close you want to be from home. I loved the rainy weather there, and the city was so gorgeous... I think I'm really missing SF right now.. :(

LONG BEACH STATE. Excellent education for your money. Nice dorms if you want to live on campus, cool surrounding area if you want to live off. COOL classes. TONS of student amenities. Always something going on. Oh yeah and there's a pub on campus.

@animal, If you want to go to NYU and you think it's too expensive, you should still apply. You never know how much they can help you pay for school. And at the end of the day, if you really can't afford it, you have the satisfaction of knowing that you got into one of the best schools around.
You're going to have the rest of your creative career making compromises about money, shoot for the stars when you can!

Do your research on small liberal arts school with the pop. of 4k.
A great book is 'Colleges that Change Lives' by Alan Pope, or ctcl.com
Sometimes the big schools are only good because of how many people apply and get rejected.
if you really want to get to any any school.
you can try SMC for 2 years for your GE's and transfer.
-Save you money
-Almost guaranteed admission if you bust your balls.

Update if anyone cares.. any thoughts might be helpful too. As of now it's really a toss up between humboldt and sfsu. Humboldt is cool but it's far smaller than I had thought (I'm there right now). I dunno... Guess I'll sleep on it
@aksendz: you still thinking of going to hsu?

If you like the small-town feel and Oregon being close by, then Humboldt is definitely the place.
But, if you like a fast-paced, urban-setting, then SFSU would be it.

The lack of entertainment in smaller schools such as Humboldt may actually help you do well on your studies since you will have less distraction. Also, think about what type of community, scene, and environment you want around you-while choosing a school. I am on a similar page, I am waiting for acceptance letters from Cal, Santa Barbara, and UCLA...
