reply
When are you going?
If you are going to Stone, you probably want to camp here instead, but you need to make reserv. and I'm not sure about bike in camping.

there's also this page with different camping places. click on the map

Considering you'd be leaving Stone kinda Crunk and don't want to ride too far.. You know?

Theres a lake San Marcos that looks like it has camping , but I can't find info.
Anyhow. Let me know what you find out. I plan to do this trip again.
I've stayed at the hike in Bike in San Clemente and it worked out fine.

FYI--San Clemente's hike and bike section is gone--for good. You'll need reservations there just like regular campers. Sucks, because it was a great one.
Dana Pt campground just a few miles N of SC still has a hike and bike. Not as nice as SC, but still right off the beach and the price is right.

Honestly, I arrived after 8pm and went down to the beach and slept under the train tracks with two other riders and we totally got away with it. I just woke up at sunrise washed myself up and got back on the road.

but to be prudent, I'd go with your suggestion. I just tend to wing it when I'm going places. I can't believe you just cant go to sleep someplace remote without someone giving you shit our charging you money for doing so.

When I did a bike tour between SF and LA, I slept on random beaches. We'd arrive after dark and usually leave around sunrise, so no one ever bothered us. One morning, I noticed the big "no camping" sign we had set up our tent next to without noticing in the dark. XD
That being said, I've been partying on the beach and had the sheriff come and harass us. So it probably depends on the beach. If it's somewhere people don't normally go, you're probably fine.

Dixon Lake is Escondido is not really accessible by bike in the dark and after drinking at Stone. It is way too much climbing and if you don't know where you are going. I would not recommend it.

While I am in full agreement with the intent of the graphic referring to spammers as lower life forms, I wholeheartedly object to the inclusion of worms in the category. Worms are amazing work horses--they recycle my garbage, create amazing organic fertilizer for my plants, and can drastically improve the condition of soil. They're a gardeners' best friend--and deserve respect. The creator of the comic should be ashamed.
Now back to your regular programming.

I'm from Escondido and use to work at Dixon lake back in the days, I wouldn't recommend camping at Dixon, it's really out of the way from Stone Brewery. Would recommend camping in Oceanside.

what about the closest motel? 4 to a room equals cheap, plus no gear to carry, and a shower the next morning as well.

What happened to San Clemente hike and bike? Victim of budget cuts, or...?
Oh, well. I guess I'll never officially camp there now. Fuck it then, I recommend just doing what Gado² and Spiral and I did a few years ago: crash on the beach without a tent and be outta there before sunrise. This works a lot better when it's warm....
