Hello Ridazz!
2011 World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) is coming up on June 11th (Saturday)
and Los Angeles is committed to ride!
We had an awesome time last year with a spirited turn out for LA's
first WNBR since 2005. For anyone who missed out or wants to remember
that day there are a collection of links to photo / video from
different sources posted on the wall of the 2010 Facebook Event page:
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=129066633771110&index=1
We've got a lot of ideas for 2011 and we'd like to open the call for
anyone to help us organize the event. We will be holding an
organizational ride/meeting on Sunday March 6th at 1:00pm at Echo Park Lake. We will do a medium paced ride of last year's route and then discuss the upcoming 2011 ride. Ride departs at 1:30pm!
General Info:
The WNBR is a ride to promote bike-culture, self-sustainability, to
protest oil dependency and body shame. The ride is CLOTHING OPTIONAL;
and people will be in varying degrees of nudity, costume, and
decoration. You may ride wearing whatever you like, but spirit is
mandatory!

Just letting you know that tomorrow, Sunday March 6th, we will be
holding a special organizers ride/meeting to plan the 2011 World Naked
Bike Ride (WNBR'11) to take place in June.
1:00PM We will meet at the north west corner of Echo Park Lake near
the intersection of Glendale and Park Avenue.
1:30PM (sharp) We will depart on a medium paced recap of last year's
route through Echo Park, Downtown, Chinatown, the LA River path, and
Silverlake. We will be leaving at 1:30pm, so please arrive on time
or early!
2:30PM(ish) We return to the starting point at Echo Park Lake and
discuss the arrangements for the WNBR'11 coming in June. Topics will
include general WNBR info/mission, route, pre-ride, and afterparty.
In particular we are scouting private locations to host the pre/after
rides, volunteers to help spread the word and recruit, and artists to
help us make a visual statement in June.
All are welcome to enjoy the ride with us and partake in the
discussion. Hope to see you there!
best,
Anthony

To respond to KiMS1 comment --> the participants at last year's ride were awesome. As far as I could tell everyone was respecting each other, especially anyone who chose to ride nude. The demographic was more of the daring activist/cyclist/artist crowd rather than exhibitionists or voyeurs.
On that note, I'd like to reiterate that nudity is not mandatory, albeit encouraged as part of the ride's statement of human powered transit and the inherent vulnerability cyclists face everyday.
If anyone has questions or concerns about the ride, feel free to throw them up here and we'll respond best we can.

FB event page for 2011 WNBR Los Angeles is up and cracking. Spread the word, and RSVP as attending so we can get a semi-reasonable headcount for our pre-ride location -->

last year was great, positive energy, positive vibes.
tres things could be improved on.
1. better route, dtla was cool but going into and stopping in skid row was hella sketch!
2. better location of the start, It took me an hour to find the place and by the time I found it I picked up 9 other ridazz who where also lost.
3. pre ride was really awkard. my friend brough body paint and we imposed that people got painted and that was a huge ice breaker.
I doubt I'll be participating this year due to UCMJ restrictions but best wishes to all the participants!

@aksendz --> duly noted and thanks for the feedback!
Some quick responses to let you know we're on it:
1) Skid Row --> the route will be similar this year with some minor changes, and the loop into skid row is under debate. We got both positive and negative feedback on that aspect. Regarding the stop, this year support vehicles are in the works so the whole group won't be stopping the way we did several times along the ride.
2) Starting Location --> may be the same this year, though due to the number of RSVP's (450 and counting) we are looking for a larger location. Unfortunately, due to the nature of this ride we cannot advertise the starting location or the exact route until the day before the ride, but we will try to provide better directions. Please be sure to get on our event page and check your messages.
3) Pre-Ride --> body paint, sunscreen, and some light booze is definitely the way to go. Last year was our first crack at it, so things will be much more comfortable this time around, both in the arrangement of the space and the people.

I actually REALLY enjoyed that part. I remember tons of people on the sidewalks at skidrow had broken out into laughter pointing and laughing at us.
2. better location of the start, It took me an hour to find the place and by the time I found it I picked up 9 other ridazz who where also lost.
That was true! It was not easy to find, and when the ride left, for some reason I lagged for a minute and was not with the ride. But it was actually a good thing because I found several other lost riders who had never found the home and I told them to follow me.
Catching up to the ride was VERY interesting... I was just shirtless, and pedestrians KNEW I was behind... and they were all pointing and telling me which they went so I never missed a turn! :o
3. pre ride was really awkard. my friend brough body paint and we imposed that people got painted and that was a huge ice breaker.
It was somewhat awkward, but that's just the way it is. A single beer is enough to relax your nerves though, I recommend just one, hehe.

Just an update to let you know that we've booked our Pre and Post Ride location at a private outdoor space where there will be room for body painting, byob-ing, and making buddies before the ride as well as DJ/electronic music curated by our hosts.
Like last year, we will keep the address of the pre-ride/starting location undisclosed until the day before the ride (June 11th), so please R.S.V.P. to the facebook (https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=129066633771110) or get yourself on our mailing list (insemillation@gmail.com) and you will be sure to get a notice. We can let you know now that it will be in the Echo Park / Silverlake area.
Attendance is looking to be easily 3x last year. Going to be a great time. GET PUMPED, BRING YOUR FRIENDS

A man and woman were arrested in connection with the assault on a group of cyclists who were riding earlier this month through Echo Park during the Naked Bike Ride, police said. Carlos Rojas, 20, and Amanda Arellano, 20, of Los Angeles were apprehended on Wednesday after police spotted their car in the 1200 block of Sunset Boulevard and set up a stake out, according to Lt. Wes Buhrmester with the Rampart Division. Rojas was arrested on a warrant in connection with the assault that left at least two cyclists with minor injuries. Arrelano, who had a gun in her purse at the time of the arrest, is believed to have been at the scene and is considered a person of interest in the case, according to police.
Two other males suspects are still being sought. Click on the link below to read Buhrmester’s full account of the arrests.
Two arrests have been made in relation to the assault on the bicyclists. Shortly after the investigation by our gang unit began, an arrest warrant alleging assault with a deadly weapon was obtained against Carlos Rojas, 20, Los Angeles. The warrant was issued based on vehicle and suspect information obtained at the scene, and from follow-up witnesses in the community. On June 22, 2011, at approximately 5:45 pm, detectives from a surveillance unit observed the car used during the crime, parked in the 1200 block of Sunset Blvd. They staked it out. Rojas and the female driver, Amanda Arellano, 20, Los Angeles, left in the car and they were detained.
Rojas was identified and arrested on the warrant. Arellano was believed to have been at the scene of the crime, and is a person of interest. At the time she was stopped, Arellano was carrying a loaded pistol in her purse. Rojas was booked for the warrant, which carries a $75,000 bail, while Arellano was booked for having a loaded firearm in a public place, with bail set at $35,000. Two other male suspects are being sought, as the investigation continues.
