Gear Help!

I took a trip to the bike kitchen to switch out my cassette. The cassette i found had the exact number of teeth but my chain is rubbing against the other cogs. I am relocating soon and would like to weigh my options, any help is appreciated...
Can u remove cogs in a cassette?( i had the idea of converting it to an 8 speed)
Can i buy a new 6 speed cassette, my bike is old:)
if all else fails i can convert to fixed, the oldie but goodie has horizontal dropouts.

if you have a freehub body you can use spacers. i dont know about them old school cassettes.
if you have a derailleur, adjust the cable so it doesnt rub. also make sure the chainsize is correct.

and you can still go single speed with a tensioner.

Junes what is a freehub body?
The chain was not rubbing on the old cassette...can i adjust it on the current one?

i know right?!? im gonna miss all you guys! You, Jenny and Jesse were the ones that introduced me...i havent looked back since! i will mos def throw a going away ride. Im leaving june 10:) so the weekend before.

freehub body is the one where the cassette slides onto the freehub in one piece usually for the first 3-4. freehub has spline inserts, and freewheel is threaded to lock the cassette in place.
there could be lots of things wrong with it but sounds like your chainline is off. is this from a new wheel or simply just a new casette?

i bought a piece of shit new wheel...and i regret it! i like my gears man so im thinking ill stick with it...and just buy a good rear wheel.

mavic aksiums make near bulletproof wheelsets. you can find a used set for around 200 or less.
