What's a good route for....

This?

As part of my training I want to go from my apartment to my parents' house, just because the distance fits my schedule, it would freak my mom out to see me come up to their house on my bike (My dad would love it though), and if I decide I am too tired, I can make them drive me back.

I'd like to go there and then come back to the Universal City or North Hollywood Metro Station, and take the train home so I'll come in around 70-80mi for the day (Don't want to overdo it - what's the point of doing the century then?).

I've never done this before. I'd like to try it.

What do you say?

crazzzzy i've thought of visiting my parents in simi before, but santa susana pass would kick my ass also just be careful with traffic there.

i love box canyon, its a bit steeper but the incline is forgiving. it goes steep gives you a little break, steep again, perfect for interval training.

santa susana pass is not that hard.

wind is a bitch and descending from the pass is fun.

I'd just like to see the look on my mom's face as I come up the hill to the house.

I've always wanted to like, walk all the way to my parents' house as part of an art project. But that might have to wait until I've got some spare time.

I guess it'd have to be pretty hilly huh?

Like, what's a good route out of Hollywood? And through the valley? I just posted that map for the general start and end locations...but what are some of your ideas for moderately bike friendly routes? How would you go?

easiest to take cahuenga, to burbank, to valley circle, to santa susana.

i've done this route quite a few times this year solo.

How long did it take?

I'm pretty excited.

you're looking at 2 fast hours each way. 3 is more realistic.

Is it okay to do on your own? I am planning at getting up at like 5am to head out on a Saturday. Not this weekend, but the following. I feel like there will be plenty of weekend warriors to keep me company.

yeah santa susana rarely has car traffic because of the 101.

they valley is much more suited for riding than over the hill. i think the valley's "bicycle infrastructure" is better laid out.

HappyLand, my house is about exactly halfway (Sepulveda and Ventura) Let me know when you want to do this & you can totally break here.
Also, make sure to take the eastern side of the Cahuenga Pass. It's much more bike friendly than the two lane road on the western side of the 101.
