Where would you go on high-speed rail?
Thread started by Drew at 09.5.08 - 11:54 am

I got this email from Emily Rusch at CALPIRG http://www.calpirg.org.
Thought I would pass it along.

Most of you indicated last week that like me, you care deeply about building high-speed rail to reduce our state's oil dependence, cut global warming pollution and boost our economy. However, I have to admit, it's also fun to daydream about how much easier it will be to get around the state once it's built.

Haven't seen the high-speed rail's route? Now's your chance.

Click on the link below to go to a large version of the map on our Web site. Share it with family and friends, too. While you check out the map, we'd like to hear your story:

http://www.calpirg.org/action/where-would-you-go?id4=ES

Some polling shows that only 22 percent of California knows about the high-speed rail project. Once people know about the proposed train, most Californians support building it.

We need you to help us spread the word. From the poll we sent last week I know that 94 percent of you enthusiastically approve of the high-speed rail measure, and want CALPIRG to make it priority.

You can help spread that enthusiasm by sending this map to your fellow Californians who would benefit from high-speed rail, and tell us where you would go on high-speed rail.

I'd probably just take Southwest or drive and hope that our state government would put that money toward education / healthcare / something useful.

I'm all for public works, but spending billions on a slower / more expensive solution for travel seems a little silly, especially if we'd have the same BS security we have to deal with at the airports.

are they really going to take the line through central cali though? if so why not connect it directly to the major cities along the coast? probably more expensive I'm sure
