questions about grants
Thread started by gohomedorothy at 06.24.08 - 6:15 pm

do any of you know if there are la county or caltrans or any kind of grants to fund bike racks for schools?

reply

gohomedorothy, aka Dorothy Le, Planning and Policy Director for the LACBC, has just asked the midnight riders if they know anything about grants for bike racks.

I give you the LACBC, our representation to city governments.

Aw, come on, giver her a break already.

Ever hear of the wisdom of the crowd? Someone on this site knows a few sources of funding in this lousy country that can get bike racks built.

I suggest trying to get some Trandportation Demand Management money out of various sources. If you're doing something in L.A., unfortunately, you'll have to work with the City's Bikeways staff - who have their own agenda (which doesn't always match up with the riding public's).

If Ms Le reveals her annualized salary at the LACBC then T REX will give her a break, and other riders can judge weather this is fare.

yeah dude. ease up.

have you tried the "Safe Routes to School" Program? I know they have stuff in california....

here is the National Center for Safe Routes to School

What is Safe Routes to School (SRTS)?

Safe Routes to School is a national and international movement to enable and encourage children, including those with disabilities, to walk and bicycle to school. SRTS programs are comprehensive efforts that look at ways to make walking and bicycling to school a safer and more appealing transportation alternative, thus encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle from an early age.

and check out this awesome manifestation of this very idea in
north carolina! who knew!!!

NCDOT Division of Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation.

I can make bike racks... you know like the half useless ones they have in downtown, the art ones that no one realizes are bike racks.
I can do this if they want to pay me... otherwise, fuckit.

A-fuckin-MEN

it's like there is some kind of conspiracy going to get "art" involved in everything public transportation like an extra layer of beaurocracy added so as to drain funds and add time to every metro or public transit project and make the actual product slightly - completely useless.

what about those three tall bike racks on east side of vermont, just south of uh, beverly? combined, it's at least 30+ feet of metal, but they're vertical racks with three different handle bar shapes at the top. what a waste of materials! essentially, you just end up with space for six bikes (two per pole), instead of potentially fifteen or more.

Tall bikes need racks too!
