Bike Painting
Thread started by rudy1 at 03.4.08 - 10:13 am

I want to get my bike painted. Does anyone know of a place that does this (well) in greater Los Angeles?

Yahoo .yellow pages "steve's plating" in burbank off of Buena Vista {fuck NBC}. Great establishment along with service and 24hr turn around....$100....

a few sheets of sandpaper - different grades, 2 cans of spray paint and a can of clear acrylic. any scratches, you touch up yourself instantly.

If you wanna pay someone to do it, I hear Palms Cyclery on Motor and Venice have about 75 colors to choose from and it's around $100.

if you like the bike, do NOT do the paint yourself unless you have the right paint and equipment, otherwise it'll scratch really easily no matter what you do. i don't care what anyone says, no spraycan and clearcoat paint job is worth what you put into it. the paint needs to have the right amount of hardener and then heated if possible to get the best finish.

for me at least, a do it yourselfer is fine if you sand the whole bike before hand and do even paint strokes/sprays. my bike in my profile was a black univega....now it's a home depot green spray job and it looks killer in person. no drip marks and any scratches, 10 minutes later with a spurt of the spray can.....bammmmm, looking good......

Maybe it doesn't come out as well as a professional job, but doing it by yourself with sandpaper and spray cans is more fun and more satisfying. Here's a paint job I did on a bike someone had long ago abandoned at my apt. complex. Painted it and fixed it up for a surprise gift for my girlfriend. Got major boyfriend points for that one!

Hooray for all those "homemade" paint jobs i've seen on all the rides.
(jared yours is fantasticlove the stripes!!!!) I've painted 4 bikes myself and love having a custom finish thats easy to touch up. Your not gonna get that automotive shine with krylon, but who cares. Flat is cool too.
