Towlie,
Can you elaborate what the site is about and what your involvement is? it seems like you hang around some of my favorite driving/road rallyeing roads. ie. Kelbaker, Zzyzx, Kelso Cima, Cima, Morning Star, Nipton, etc. I hit 152 one time going down Nipton.

I'm sure you are also aware of the Mojave Desert Phone Booth? I worked on an unfinished Documentary about the Booth. (you could only get there with off-road vehicles and the booth, sadly, has long since been removed.)

I really love that part of the desert.

So far lodesertprotosites.org is just me, but in prep for the poker run a couple friends are creating some stuff, some of which will be permanent, some won't. The site is about obscurity, discovery and being observant. It's inspired by the strange things I've found once I got out of my car to stroll or ride through the desert. And there's also the fringe aspect to Hi Desert Test Sites to the south.

I ran across the Mojave phone booth in 1979 while riding off-road from Barstow to Vegas. It was quite surreal, riding across the middle of nowhere and finding a working phone booth! I was stoked to find out many years later that it was world famous. It always stuck in the back of my mind.

I grew up racing off-road and belong/belonged to the Checkers MC. We used to promote a race from Johnson Valley SVRA to Parker, AZ. Me, my family, and club members spent alot of time in the desert scouting routes from the start to the finish. In fact, one adventure we had back in 1980 will have a tribute at the poker run. I don't ride motorcycles anymore but I do go to Laughlin alot which is why Blackjack is way out on Hwy 95.

Anyway, that's too much here. lodesprotosites gmail com

So, i assume you have been to the MDPB website at Deuce of Clubs.com

Great story and read.

I also shot a Cadillac commercial in Parker AZ several years ago. Stayed at the Blue Water Casino.

Cool idea and cool website (so far)

A year or 2 ago I was up at the Jawbone Station, and someone had put together a series of books about a whole bunch of points of interest, ranging from unexplained art installations to unmarked graves to abandoned mines all throughout the Mojave desert. Quite interesting. If you're in Jawbone, check it out.

"Blue Water Casino". Wow, Blue Water was our finish HQ for the Check Chase. I haven't been to Parker since 1980.

i haven't been there since 2001. I'm guessing its still a 'don't blink or you'll miss it' town.

I was just there on 12/29 and 12/30. But it was way crowded, bands and everything. My friend has a cabin off of 14 out past Red Rock Cyn. I'll have to stop in Jawbone when it's less crowded.

Did you run across the Husky Memorial in any of the books? A few old friends have memorials there.

No, from what I hear the Parker area has grown phenomenally in the past 5 years.
