hey i was wondering if anyone knew of some good rides within a 3hr drive of los angeles. planning on driving out to where ever and going for a 4-5 hour ride. in the mood for a quiet, flat (optional), desert-plain type ride.

I'd suggest you go up to Lebec, CA. I did the Heartbreak Hundred century up there last May and it was awesome. It's about 2-3 hours up the 5. Then you could ride into Ventura county. It's really nice rural riding with cattle guards and everything. Here's the link to the century page. I bet I have the route slip here somewhere...

if you want flat desert, park in Rosamond, head west, then south, then loop counter-clockwise back around to where you parked. lots of flat desert roads with little traffic. bitch of a headwind while heading west but then you can take advantage of it on your way back to the car.
