mapmyride - has lot of ads and sometimes slow
gmap-pedometer - can save routes but need to keep track of the route #
bikely - kind of a mix between mapmyride and gmaps.
to make routes, bikeroutetoaster is pretty good, but i haven't figured out how to save routes online.

personally for me, mapmyride's 'follow roads' feature is the best of the mapping sites, and by creating a user account, you simply map a ride and save it, and it's saved in a neat little table with all your other routes, showing the mileage of each, making it easy to add up your miles for the weekend, the month, or more. plus it's elevation profiles are the most superior in my opinion as well. some ads but no popups for me and the ad on the mapping screen can be moved completely out of your way so you don't see it.

I come from the last century, a time when you couldn't listen to your music unless you had a stack of vinyl and a turntable (non-portable to say the least).
I refuse to put a cyclometer on my single speed and ruin the sleek look. To check the miles I cover, I use a caliper and a paper street map. It is quick and surprisingly accurate.
For planning routes and sharing with others, mapmyride works just fine.
