D-Town Ridazz haus
Thread started by vladster at 01.6.10 - 11:28 am

I floated the idea of buying a house in Detroit to make into a Ridazz club haus/art house/gallery ala http://www.1614esplanade.com/ (one of the many amazing moments on the New Orleans trip).

Several people expressed interest. The new homeowners tax credit has been extended. It looks like we can get houses sub-$1000 if we don't mind redoing the interiors completely (I can prob take a month off in the spring/summer and know enough about carpentry to be hazardous).

Does anyone know anybody in Detroit? I bet if we make a convincing pitch about making a new art house/gallery for city regeneration to the right people, we can get a house for free.

did you forget a zero or two? because we could buy a whole block.

Dang, looks like there's a catch:

http://www.city-data.com/forum/detroit/491405-9000-asking-house-6200-annual-taxes.html

So the less your house is worth the more property taxes you pay? This means we'd need someone(s) to live in the house.

looks like the secret is to buy a million dollar house....
or maybe buy a cheap house and get some permits to redo the house to increase the value to a million dollars ;)

Man, Detroit though. How cold?! What about in New Orleans? That place was fucking RAD. The cab driver that took me 'n Dak to the train station was selling his wife's grandmother's house just down the block from NOLARidazz HQ for $120,000, and it was nice (i.e., restored after Katrina). I'm sure there's cheaper shit there.

I thought about the lower 9th ward maybe, but that's still a significant investment. Plus there weren't any trees around. Plus New Orleans already has an art house with an amazing tree park.

mad props to the Michigan folks who took care of mikewally

that said there arent many young people in Michigan who wouldn't bail if they had the chance...

(thats why there is so many ex-Mich in SoCal)

And I havent mentioned Detroit. That would be like calling North Philadelphia typical of Pennsylvania ...

BUT SHAZaM! WASNT THE WEATHER HERE TODAY JUST BITCHIN!!!

(p.s. if you own property in Detroit have armed guards present on Oct 30th and anytime any Detroit teams wins anything)

i dont know anyone who lives in detroit, but i know a lot of people who have left.

i think an interesting idea would be using an old building to create an urban greenhouse. urban farming is taking over all across the rust belt, and it is possible to live off the proceeds!

I still can't get over the F'n SILVERDOME on 127 acres sold for $583,000. You can't even get a house in LA for that.
