metro projects

These are some exciting projects on which LACMTA (Metro) is working...

This is weak , but a start for my area nonetheless.

I just find it interesting that they feature an LACMTA Express bus in the picture.
Who am I kidding, our bus service up here is piss poor.

efficient mass transit is something that can be enjoyed best by people who live in dense urban areas. i'm happy that los angeles is slowly but surely improving mass transit, and i encourage anyone who wishes to make use of it to move to areas with good access.

i know you may be restricted by employment opportunities and that is unfortunate. i hope that more opportunities will present themselves to you in the city.

The regional connector is a great project so make sure all rail connects through downtown, but there is strong opposition from the Little Tokyo community. Another case of NIBYism.

Luckily, I've always managed to find work in the desert.

Unfortunately, there are still many people I know of that have foolishly bought cheaper houses up here, but failed to procure any local employment for themselves.

I may deal with the round-trip every 2-3 weeks, but could you imagine going to a desk job and handling a 200+ mile, roundtrip commute 5-6 days a week???

These people might as well get their commercial endorsements and switch jobs, or sleep in their cars during the work week.

los angeles public transportation used to be almost exclusively used by people of low income. this, in my eyes, is the source for the opposition from affluent communities. however, in recent years there has been greater economic diversity in the users of los angeles' mass transit system. this is probably the result of a combination of environmental concerns, the cost of ownership of a car (gas, parking, tickets, insurance, etc), and a desire for a greater sense of community. as the negative image of using public transportation dissipates and transforms into a neutral or positive image, opposition will slowly diminish. There will always be opposition, especially from industries who profit from alternative modes of transportation, but they too are now diversifying their products and services in order to survive in the evolving market.

as a group of somewhat enlightened people, we will play an important role in the push toward mass transit and car independence.

Senator Inouye from Hawaii is getting into the mix. He can FUck up funding. Of course he has a conflict of interest since he sits on the board of the Japanese American National Museum.

He should stick to Honolulu's own rail issues and stay out of LA
