Just putting this out there, my buddy and I are riding to SD tomorrow morning if anyone wants to roll along. Not sure where we are staying, but hopefully that wont be an issue! Ha!

Making a wrong turn into Camp Pendleton.

(Turn right at the end of Camino Real to go the correct way)

Nah, its a good ride, fairly straightforward and a decent shoulder. Enjoy!

Damn, I will miss you guys. I'm in Seattle till Wednesday.

Here is the route again, just incase you don't have it.

LA2SD route

From Union Station:
Left out of Union Station on to Alameda.
Left on E. Vernon.
Left on Leonis.
Leonis becomes District.
At intersection of District and S. Atlantic, go though intersection and look on left for entrance to bike path.

LA River Bike Path to Long Beach
Along the beach to Belmont Shores
2nd St. to PCH
PCH allllllllll the way down to San Clemente.
Turned into El Camino Real. Road the bike bath through the campsite and up into Pendleton.
Road the 5 FWY for 7 miles.
Turned into Carlsbad and rode S-21 down to Del Mar.

This route takes you on the 5 freeway for several miles. You can ride though Camp Pendleton instead, but the route takes you far inland and back, adding, at the very least, 10 miles, probably more. Riding the 5 freeway instead is VERY direct into Carlsbad.
Having done it a few times it is not as scary or crazy as it sounds and is actually more fun. The edge strip is wide and there is a rumble strip between you and the cars as a reminder (like on the ALC). If you do go through the base be sure to bring identification and helmets are mandatory (duh!).

Hey! Thanks a bunch Drew. Sucks you guys won't be there. Not like I will have much energy after this ride anyways. We are going to be heading back Sunday morning.
