So who's not going home for Christmas, and'll be around for this awesome ride for the solstice?
Brassknuckle and I tested it out last night, and the route is awesome.
Take plenty of pictures for me while I'm in South Carolina!

The route for this ride is really fun to ride. A few rolling hills, a lot of flats, and some good downhill. Don't be scared off by the increase in mileage. It's not a difficult ride.

Hi donmarcos,
We generally like to keep the route secret, is there something specific you would like to know?

ahh ok, no nothing.. I did not know I thought most of the rides had the googlish map to show the route.. but it is a "secret" then even more fun..
thanks

I'll have a brassmonkey before riding with Brassmunkee

we are trying to make it so that people can make it for the last train, hence the early time.

The Race of Chaos happens on the 22th. The Rat Race happens the 16th. Either way, we probably won't be able to hit both.

genius idea to ride to Santa Monica!
what happened with the cops on 3rd street?

This cop wrote one guy a ticket. Took my info but I had dirt on him from some shit he (The cop) pulled at the Swarm the Pier ride. Unbelieveably, didn't ticket me even after I told him "don't be such a dick." (I try not to provoke shit - it just slipped...and he deserved it anyway). It could have gone much worse and the other three cops seemed decent enough. I can't believe we had ANOTHER run in with thissame chode sargent from the pier. That said, we weren't blameless (we were riding on the promenade and a couple people ignored orders to stop) and the guy who got ticketed was cool to hang with. Let's take up a collection - something he can pass on to our pal in blue at the courthouse. I'm willing to kick in $5 for my share of the fine. Who's with me. We can have one of the organizers give it to our victim.

Yeah, I'm with you. In fact, I suggested it to him (the guy who got ticketed) while we were all milling around on Santa Monica Blvd. during one of the breakdowns. He was reluctant, but hopefully he's changed his mind. He didn't do anything to provoke the cop; he was just the guy who happened to get grabbed.
P.S. I was the guy to whom you were going to give a ride to the harbor area if I missed the last bus. I lost you, but I got a ride from a Rida who lives down that way.

Damn, if I'd known you guys were riding to the pier I woulda joined you along the route! I'm on the westside and I just didn't feel like either riding or driving all the way to the meeting point (I know, wimpy). Had I known!!!

Yeah, I think taking up a collection for this guy would be the right thing to do, he was mostly in the wrong place at the wrong time, and hearing that we have a little "history" with this particular officer makes it worse . . . does anyone know what the fine is going to cost?
Overall, I thought it was an excellent ride . . . a small, tight knit group that demonstrated the "No Rida Left Behind" philosophy on several occasions.

I think a collection is definitely the right thing to do. It could have been any one of us getting the ticket. We were all riding there, but he just happened to be in the front of the pack when the cop stopped us, so he was the one who got the ticket.
That cop was being a complete dick insisting that we should know you can't ride your bike there. I for one didn't see a sign until we left the area and then noticed a small sign that was about 15 feet up, and that was only because i was looking for the sign he said existed. There is no way i would have noticed that without being told it existed.

PC.
I finished the ride LAST; one of our new Ridazz had a large heavy bike and I hung back. I did look for you in the Rite Aid parking lot but in retrospect, I should have given you my cell number. The offer is good on any ride I'm on, by the way so next time we can swap numbers and make sure we don't get separated. As far as the collection goes - I believe our ticket recipient will be on the punk rock ride so we can all kick down there. If we wind up overpaying he can donate the extra to one of the funds toward medical expenses for one of our downed ridazz.

i'm down to pitch in some $$ -- it could have turned out far worse... that cop nearly tackled the rida to the ground...
copz are just jealous

Hey guys, this was a great ride, thanks for the good times!
I was the dude that got cited by the SM cop. After speaking with my brother, who is an attorney in DC, I think a letter to the SM Court and the SM Police Dept explaining the case and requesting a warning is in order. Whether or not I knew it at the time, I was in the wrong riding on the Promanade, but leverage I may have to get a simple warning would be the Sgt. "unjustly accosting my person" (that was lawyer speak!) by grinding me to a halt with his shoulder.
The SM Court website is "is currently unavailable due to schedule[d] maintenance", I will check tomorrow and see what the fine is. Whether it is $10 or $150, I am going to go to court on the citation, I think it will be interesting!
Thanks again for a great Friday night guys.

hey sheffield I have some video footage of us riding into the mall. I dont know if it helps or hinders but I'll post it up for you. basically it shows us riding very peacefully into the mall. and it also shows you getting wrangled though it's a little obscurred since I was back a ways from the front lines.
one of the arguments counter to what the cop had requested (a sudden complete stop) that immediately came to mind was the fact that when riding in a group it is simply dangerous for a rider to suddenly put on the brakes. doing so can easily cause crashes and injury to those right behind the suddenly stopped cyclist who are not prepared to do so themselves.
In fact, as we all know, there is a process for slowing to a stop that makes things safe for everyone. this process is fairly common knowledge amongst all cyclists which I suspect is the main reason you justifiably did not stop immediately as the apparently ill trained cop so dangerously requested and vigorously enforced. you were obviously and kindly in the far safer mode of slowing to a stop for the safety of those behind you. thanks for that. I explained that to the cop on the side that night but by that point I think you guys were already fucked.
you can also possibly reference this article on bicycle safety and riding in groups:

Thanks for the helpful items RB!
I would love to get that video from you, can you upoload a QT file for me, or if it is too large I can grab a disc from you?
The link to Bicycle Street Smarts is great too, known facts and common sense for a cyclist, but is great reference info for the letter I am writing, and in the court.
Cannot join you guys in the am, but I will see ya tonight in N Hollywood!
Thanks again!

Whadda awesome ride.
There were a few snaggys but it turned out allright more or less.
It was pretty awesome having everybody wait/help me out while i fixed my first flat. And props to Samhain who had a 20" tube even though he was riding a full sized bike!
I lost you all at the end because I had to stop for more air.
But damn ... I never even considered riding to the beach b4 on my little 6 speed. You guys not only proved that it was doable but FUN!
And if for some reason there is a fne to pay.
We should deffinatly collect some dough.
