Cross-town route recommendations?

Hey Ridazz, I live near Sunset and Silver Lake Blvd and recently started attending UCLA. I rode to and from school yesterday, taking Sunset the whole way there and taking Wilshire/Santa Monica/Doheny/Sunset back. I'm hoping to get some recommendations for alternate routes, as Sunset can be a little hairy and it's a hilly motherfucker once you get to Bel Air. Does anybody have a commute similar to this? It would be fun to have a partner.
Thanks in advance!

Fountain is a good street to avoid the sunset madness in hollywood then there are some downhills going on at la cienaga and the secret sauce cut through bev hills is carmelita road near doheny and santa monica. Agent Orange hipped me to that part of the route carmelita is way better than santa monica blvd. on that particular stretch.... Wilshire is not so bad from there though there are still some hills.. watch the westside drivers they are particualrly ignorant morons out there.... someone was killed recently at the intersection of wilshire and santa monica
this route is still rough and just a suggestion... anyone else weigh in on this?

i ride from work (santamonica/sepulveda to sunset/benton), and i have found that fountain and carmelita are to great alternates to sunset/hollywood/santamonica. i take santa monica between doheny and fairfax since it has a bike lane for most of that stretch and the drivers are not too shitty (mostly because they are not moving to far or quickly).
if you're ever riding home around 7ish i can meet up with you

as of a few days ago, parts of santa monica ( east of sepulveda and before century city ) were paved, and it looks like there is some more room along the shoulder to ride.
if the little plasitc dealies that are planted in the road are indicators of the lanes to be painted, then it looks like there might be an actual line making some space to ride. don't know if its going to be a bike lane, but some space has been made

Good lookin' out guys. I tried using Fountain and Carmelita on Friday, definitely much nicer. Wilshire is still super scary, though. I'm thinking I might just wimp out and take the bus for that last little bit...
Thanks for the invite, Bicigol. I'll hit you up on here next time I'm leaving school later in the day...
