Roadblock, are there going to be fixed gear requirements for each time? Probably good to get the figured out/announced soon, since it sounds like people are assembling teams already.
City Hobgoblin06.12.07 - 4:26 pm
reply
teams are required to have minimum one fixie rider.
I want people to be able to plan for the kickin it bbq at the finish spot. since the finish spot is secret I will organize a ride from a "map point" spot and lead it to the finish line area.

is your team complete or do you guys need another rider? im so down.
and to anyone.. im riding a fixie... so lets start a fixie team or let me join your team if you dont have a fixie rider.. im fast.. so dont worry.

Trickmills YES your DJ skills are most wanted. We wont have an electrical outlet I fear.... unfortunately everything is no budget underground fun in the sun. Will the electric issue be a problem? does anyone have a generator??
The start point will be revealed the day prior to the event.
The finish point will be revealed upon registration 1/2 hour to 45 mins before the start. Bring a map of LA with you if you arent famliar.
The whole point of this race is to test your traffic knowledge, your street knowledge and combine it with your HUSTLE knowledge.
I will give you a hint.... the boundary for the potential finish line location is roughly within the area between where West Channel hits PCH to the North and where Imperial Highway hits the beach to the south. Anywhere laterally in between these streets.... Only myself and a select group of non competitors will know this ultra secret location.
I will be organizing a satellite ride that will start somewhere near the coast for people to meet an ride to the finish line where we will enjoy the sand sun and wolf snacks.
QUESTION
Should we make it 4 member teams instead of 5?
Roadblock06.13.07 - 10:27 am
reply
The power thing does create a bit of an issue. If we wanna rock with big sound for 100+ people
Scope out the site ... sometimes there is a place to pirate power.
A standard light socket we can screw a light bulb adapter into.
I was thinking that we could hook up 1 or 2 of my JBL powered peakers a small mixer and some choice iPods. Records and the summer sun do not go well together.
A generator is not out of the question, but that shit is noisy and nasty smelling and will cost at least $50.
There is always the battery powered boom box + iPod. If the power thing is a no go.
..........................................................
So ... its there going to be a chilled out satalitte ride that will join us at the finishline and caravan to the party so our non racing peeps can celebrate with us?
trickmilla06.13.07 - 11:23 am
reply
I think one fixie rider is enough per team.
I *think* that the point is that fixies sometimes have certain disadvantages while riding and since this race is about the last member of the team to finish it only takes one fixie rider to represent that handicap.
Some of you might point out that i got dusted by 99% of the fixie riders on the WP dragrace so I don't really have any place calling fixies a "handicap" and you'd be right.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think a 4 person squad would work well.
It would be a bit tighter. And would potentially get more teams out on the street.
But I'm down for what ever the people say.

yo richie I couldnt get your link to work for some reason but the finish line is at the fire pits/shower spot specifically exactly where it is marked on the gmap link that I posted. there is a bicycle rental shop there and on weekends there is/was a hotdog stand there (maybe it moved). finishers can cross from either direction. but yeah just look at the gmap link to see the finish line.
Mr. Rollers is hosting an easy going ride that will start at 1pm to get there if anyone is interested. I will post the location of the start for this ride...

question...
I was just wondering how this is gonna work. Are all the teams going take off at once or will it run like a time trial..... (team 1 goes at 12:05 and team 2 takes off at 12:10.... etc etc..... and than there will be a guy/girl at the finish line recording times....)... i am just curious.... roadie-b enlighten me
NEWxxNOISE07.7.07 - 11:57 pm
reply
it's all going to start at once... no time trials.
I've been hearing a lot of different strategies out there.... one thing we wnat to STRESS.
This is ALL FOR FUN. BUT YOU MAY VERY WELL BE INJURED OR CAUSE INJURY TO OTHERS. DON'T BREAK TRAFFIC LAWS. WEAR HELMETS AND RESPECT TRAFFIC.
PLEASE DONT RISK YOUR LIFE OR THE BODILY HARM OF YOU AND OTHERS IN TRAFFIC. IT'S NOT WORTH IT. THIS IS FOR THE SPORT OF IT. TAKE CARE OF YOUR TEAM MATES AND REALIZE THAT A SUDDEN STOP OR A SUDDEN TURN CAN PUT SOMEONE ON THE PAVEMENT. STAY AWARE AND DONT GET LOST IN SOMEONE'S WHEEL!!
WE ALL WANT TO SEE EACH OTHER AT THE BBQ AT THE END IN ONE PIECE.
SEE YOU THERE.

YO EVERYONE
what a fun ass time! thanks for all the help SEAN C, SC-NOMAD, PC, ALEC, MR. ROLLERS, STUDIODROME, ADAM, BRASSKNUCKLE TRICKMILLA TATTIYA (I owe you a dinner at killer shrimp) fuck it everyone who came out and had a blast, Superfish for wrestling my drunk ass and uh, being a good beach blanket. haha LAFIXED U-LOCK MOB DTLA DRIF all of the teams that rolled up.
ALEC designed and hand sewed the sweetest WP bicycle caps I've ever seen! 5 for the winning team! I wish I had one....
congrats to the all ladies TEAM GOGA! you guys placed better than quite a few all male teams. next time there WILL be a women's division.
congrats to Super Cole for capturing a priceless run with the helmet cam.
congrats to the winners Team "I wish I had shades like that" hhaha and congrats to CUBCAMP for coming in third.
I drove from the start to the beach and tell you what I was there for maybe 10 mins before the first riders TONY Z WILL WISE and CHRIS came through and I had no traffic and was driving like a maniac to get to the beach.... I didnt even have my camera ready so, thinking they were the winners I was having them go back to re-create the finish and suddenly realized there was only 4 of them. LOL!
The winning team was all fixed and repping from OC and the LBC. way to roll fellas enjoy those prizes.
The winners rolled Tang's to the beach in about 47 minutes according to my calculations that's pretty amazing. basically you can barely get there that quick on a good day in LA traffic hahah.
notes to self:
I now know how to buy beer for a party. instead of buying all good beer, you buy 1 round of good beer and then a bunch of 36 packs of bud and tecate so that "beer run two electric boogaloo" doesnt need to happen. (no one cares about taste after the first beer)
DO NOT buy CLEAR cups. opaque is preferred when drinking on the beach. (duh!)
after the first 4 teams came in it became mass confusion, hopefully the video replay can straighten everything out.
clear cups.... pfffft!!!
