Cruising up the Coast

So in true hippie fashion, i'm selling all my stuff, moving out, and heading up the coast on my bike. My destination is Portland and beyond, but really I've got to get up to Canada. No reason for doing it, other than to do it.
Right now i'm in the process of selling all my stuff. I move out in two weeks and probably leave in three weeks.
So i was wondering if anyone:
(1) had any advice - places to see along the coast, routes to take, places to stay
(2) will be anywhere along the coast and would want to join me for any part of my journey - i think i'll be heading south from L.A. first, touch the border, then head up north. I want to span the whole coast.
(3) has any good friends along the way that would be willing to offer a couch to sleep on for a night to a wayward traveller
(4) has any extra camping gear: aka panniers, a backpacking tent, nice sleeping bag, etc.
(5) is interested in buying or knows some interested in buying a sweet laptop - Alienware. It's the one thing that has been hardest to sell so far. it's on craigslist at http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/sys/339990294.html
Thanks for reading. Anything thrown my way will be appreciated. I'm gonna miss the Ridazz while I'm gone, but i'll be back for sure.

Not to be a naysayer.... Prevailing winds ,while traveling north along the Pacific coast, make riding north overall difficult. Its way easier to ride south, from what I hear. But, since you're making a life change...you might be able to take it a bit slow and have a great adventure. Good luck...I'm jealous.
