2nd Dark Century training ride

This Saturday night, April 7, Gordo and I are going to scout one idea for the next dark century training ride....aka DarkCen m. This will be a metric century (100 km). It would be cool if some folks could come ride with us, hang out, and contribute ideas for the route.
We haven't picked the date for the actual ride, but it will be a weekend night at the end of April.
The route looks pretty fun.
We will start downtown. We'll ride out to Malibu. Then we'll go down to Venice, and then east La. Then we'll go back to downtown.
Anyone game?
I'll post a meetup time later tonight.

looks like fun, but sunset from malibu is a death trap: two narrow lanes at highway speeds
spiraldemon04.5.07 - 9:33 am

Hmm. I thought it might be a bit daunting on that portion. But, it gives some hills and windey roads. Any other suggestions for that leg?

hey LaHaRR!
where have you been?
yo tern,
when is this happening?

I have two other ideas for routes, but I like this one...like milla, I think it is sort of epic to ride the length of sunset out to malibu. I understand your concerns about safety though, so maybe we can alter this route a bit.

Saturday, April 7
Olivera St. Gazebo.
8 pm.
I few people have told me that they're not into riding the hilly part of Sunset out to the Malibu. Anyone have any alternative ideas for that part of the ride?

From the bike path (or PCH) go up channel (or whatever that double intersection is,,) which if you follow it up will spit you out on ocean; take a left on San Vicente. You will be able to get onto the VA from there (with a quick left when you run into it) Exit on Ohio. Cut through Westwood (UCLA maybe?) Get to Wilshire and stay on the sidewalk past LACC and you're at Santa Monica Wilshire...

Okay, the first route is the one we will be scouting, but we will take another way out to the beach--so that we don't get run over on the death trap part.

sure...
We'll try to leave at 8:30 sharp. And then there is traffic on the strip. so, I don't know 9:00, 9:15. I guess.
909-524-1355. Call me and I'll give you a heads up when we're getting close.
Will that work?
tern04.7.07 - 4:38 pm

updated route.
at the end, we will turn left on valley and then left on main instead of turning left on Cesar Chavez. From Main, we'll make a left onto Alameda. Then we're home free.

Too bad I rode this morning or else I be there tonight. I rode part of the LA River trail this morning and I forgot how bumpy and narrow it is. Did 90 miles to train for the Dark Century.

we rode long ways on washingington tonight a little stinky but decent roads, mostly vacant at night. i think we can pick up the extra 5 miles we need by going a bit past atlantic.
