Avalon Metro Station to the HDC

So I'm trying out a new route from my house to the Home Depot Center in Carson.
I read on these boards, when an event was going on at the Velodrome, that the best way to get there by bicycle was to simply get off the Green Line at Avalon station, and head south 4.5 miles on Avalon Blvd.
It was a pretty simple ride, but the streets were pretty crowded even for a Saturday afternoon, and it wasn't the most pleasant of rides.
Looking at my BikeMetro map, I see that there is a bike lane going down Central Ave, but it doesn't connect the Metro Station to the HDC.
Is anybody on these boards familiar with this route?
Is going down Central a better option?

most drivers don't know to get off on central from the 91 to get to CSUDH/HDC, so if that's why its a better option. there isn't really anything on central to drive to
how about heading over from the nearest blue line stations?

I'm not sure of the difference in condition and traffic levels between Avalon and Central, but Bicigol's totally on it in regards to the better rail alternative. Take the Blue Line to either the Artesia Blvd. or the Del Amo Blvd. stations and then head west to Avalon.
Total distance (from Artesia station): 3.5 miles

Thanks for the tips.
It might be easier for me to ride the extra mile from Avalon station than transferring over to the Blue line.
Will try all three routes:
Avalon Station down Central
Artesia Station
Del Amo Station
