Anyone have any recommendations on where to buy a used road bike? Thanks

I've heard good things about Atomic Bicycles in Van Nuys:

Personally, I go down to Helens or SuperGo to test ride new bikes, then buy them slightly used off eBay.
Thrift stores are good as well, but you have to keep stopping by as good bikes get gone fast.
Anybody know the best bike store in LA for Vintage bikes?

Frank's Bike Shop in Echo Park on Montana between Glendale and Alvarado. He'll do you right but he works irregular hours so check back if he's not there.
El Maestro Bike Shop at 8th and Main downtown.
Orange 20 on Heliotrope.
Bicycle Kitchen on Heliotrope.
Craigslist, Craigslist, Craigslist!
I also have this friend John who buys bikes in bulk from auctions and estate sales (mostly older bikes), so if you have something in mind shoot me a line and I'll call him.

Craigslist is seriously irritating me.
I've contacted a dozen advertisers via email, and only one responded back.
Of the two that listed a phone number, one said "I don't have it". Not that he sold it, changed his mind, or whatever - just "I don't have it". What a flake.
Say what you will about the money grubbers on eBay, but at least with the member rating system you can tell whether or not you're dealing with a serious seller/buyer or someone who was just messing around on their PC.

Craigslist can be hit or miss . . . you're at the mercy of the individual and we all know how individuals can be. I got a rather decent deal a month or so back on a Cannondale road bike and the guy was just perfect to deal with.

eric if that offer still stands, can you ask your bud if he has a used road bike, around 52-53cm and under 150 bucks available? Thanks!

Well, there's these on ebay,
http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZrobaracuda
and another shop in the valley, aside from Atomic cycles (by the way, this sunday is Paul's "Spring Thing", see BikeBoom), is a shop on the southeast corner of Burbank and Woodman, forget them name, but he's got a lot of recycled stuff in there, bulging at the seams.

It's called the bike factory.

If you're vigilant, you can pick up a nice bike at the bicycle kitchen for not a lot of cash.
I saw some guy pull a sweet peugeot outta the pile of dumpers for a hundred bucks. And it was complete, and in great condition.

Yeah, finally went by the bike factory on Saturday. Interesting. Stick with Atomic Cycles.

I think it's called Covina Cyclery....They have a bunch of old (read: classic) bikes that have been collecting dust for a few years.
I guess the deal is that when the shop got sold, it was in question if the bike collection was included. Once that was resolved and the shop knew they were included, they started slowly selling the bikes. I was badgering them for a long time for a price on a really nice stainless steel Paramount track bike for over a year. But, when they finally sold it, they did it on ebay....and the price was astronomical.
But, they sell one or two here and there. There is a pretty nice early nineties Le Monde there now...dura ace and ultegra...time fork, for just under a thousand dollars. I think it is a pretty good deal for that bike. I would buy it if I had the money. It's a 54 or 55 from what I can tell.
There is a really beautiful, garish, eighties Pinarello there. That's not up for sell, yet. I'm not sure. But, if you're into these sort of bikes...the former owner's collection is still partly there. And, sometimes, from what I hear....they go for a fair price.
