Buying components

hey all,
long time?
so, it's about time i put some components on this beauty:

i've never bought "new" stuff before so i was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for good places (online - not in LA) to procure said components.
right now, i think i'm going to be sticking mostly with shimano 105 series stuff, but open to any and all suggestions.

when it comes to road components, they really know their shit. like really. nobody else gets to touch my bike anymore. anyone will tell you yeah goto their local bike shop, and i support a vast number of local shops, but bicycle johns is the place to go.
if performance has everything you need there, it may be cheaper.

Junu your attention to detail is second to none.
Chain Attack is my favorite place to watch things right now, they only sell one item at a time.
I've ordered from Nashbar. Cyclocross World and a few others with no issues.
I'm not sure what kind of frame you have, I couldn't tell from the photos. But if you want to go 9spd instead of 10 you can find some great deals on Dura-Ace and Ultegra parts for the same or less than current 105 component.

I didn't see it had bottom tube shifters, not sure what your idea is but ebay is the best place I know for getting NOS. If you do go vintage Japanese go with the 600 stuff it's way cooler man.

I love John, I've known him for 15 years and helped him set up his first shop on Hollywood Way when my friend worked for him, but I don't shop there any more even though he gives me a nice discount. The place is way too cereal for me these days, and they push people towards weight weenie tech stuff over practicality.
Customer: "I want to get a bike to ride 6 miles to work and back".
BJ's saleperson: "Ah, you should get an unobtanium frame with 36 spd Campy and the latest deep W 6 spoke wheels".

Buy this one - http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/mercier/corvus_al8.htm, transplant the parts, craigslist the frame and fork to someone who wants a lightweight fixie project, and be on your way with a nicely equipped bike.
Or take Franz's advice.

as for online, bikeisland and amazon stores usually have the best prices. i've noticed there's no really good bicycle component sites that regularly have good prices and good stock (like a newegg for bikes)
or do what JB said but watch out, some of the components on their "full ultegra" or "full dura-ace" bikes are cheapo

w00t! yes, steve is correct, i live in
san francisco as much as i miss all of the cubz.
anyone have any experience with the ebay store "wheel & sprocket". the seem to have some great deals like this shimano ultegra crankset:

oh btw, i think i'm going with bar end shifters because this i want to tour with this bike.
franz, did you have sti or bar ends when you were touring europe? i've gotten several recommendations that i should go with bar ends because they'll never fail.
