So I have been talking with some peeps about getting a couples night together for those of us trying to introduce our significant others to Midnight Ridazz. This would be open to any couple no matter what experience level, first timers would strongly be encouraged to come.
A VERY easy ride, followed by different activities similar to that of a traditional double date. It would vary by ride.
I have heard that there are other ridazz who are trying to introduce their significant others to the scene, if there is enough interest maybe it would help us get our girlfriends / boyfriends to come to rides more often?
Here is a hypothetical scenario:
-Meet up around 6:30-7
-Ride to dinner
-Ride to go do something romantic
For the first ride
I am imagining a group of rida-couples having a picnic out at Burton Chase Park in Marina del Rey as we watch the sunset. WHAT GIRL WOULD NOT WANT TO DO THIS?
We could all bring our blankies & food. The key is having a lighthearted atmosphere.

I'm down for sure John! My wife comes on some of the rides but only the slow ones... I think you may have met her on Pier Pressure (HAPPENING THIS WEEKEND).

My significant other has had a glimpse of MR and she's permanently turned off by:
1. The excessive drinking
2. Public urination
3. Injuries/accidents

since I'm clearly not dating anyone currently in the bike scene I suppose I could tune up my touring bike and start looking exclusively for girls tall enough to ride a 56c frame... hey, this brings new meaning to "route scouting"!

One of the best couples rides would be the northeast LA art ride the second Saturday of each month. It's 5-10 miles. It's a circle. You can join and leave at any time. It's 5-10 minutes riding then 20-30 min hanging out at a gallery which scores way more points than a 7-11 parking lot.

Hmmmm.........
I see a much greater demand for "find a mate" ride than a "take your significant other to a ride" ride.
Come to think of it... couples on rides... and no offense to those of you who come as couples.... it's pretty boring.... really.... it's like seeing a soso movie for the fourth time.
Only exception was Sexy and big Sexy and that's because they retained their inner sluttiness.
Would anybody have been surprised if either one of them had made out with someone else after the ride? No. And it probably never happened but they were not boring because the potential existed.
Otherwise...
Couples= unfuckable people = boring

I like this idea me and my girlfriend met on a ride and do rides all the time,I think it would be great to meet all the other MR couple.Maybe a dinner and a movie kind of thing,we can ride to dinner and all ride to a theater after.I suggest a movie only because on rides people get chaty and wonder off and don't really look like couples anymore anyway.The movie would be a good chance to be one on one at some point in the ride,to hold hands,stair into each others eyes,or whatever it is kids do these days.

I'd totally try this idea. My wife would love to see what all the Hub-bub is about MR. Without having to worry about being pushed to ride superfast and in Deep traffic.
Although I don't really like the Movie idea. The idea of parting with my bike for that long sounds scarry. A sunset picnik sounds great though.
Totally try the ride.

I really want to do this ride because I fear that I cannot have a successful relationship if my partner does not understand my bike-life... and because I find myself generally turned off by women who cannot ride bikes. My ideal relationship involves long-distance bike tours across foreign countries so I may use this ride as a litmus test and eventually as part of a basic training regimen.

Q: Are social night rides more or less male dominated than daytime weekend warrior spandex rides ? I'm asking cuz I've never gone to a spandex ride. The Pasadena peloton is 99% dudes I've noticed.

also.. a day time/ turn into night time ride may attract more skirt wearing happy girls and instead of spandex wearing, beer drinking males. so like saturday/sunday afternoon at like 4 till like midnightor so. cuz i know my problem is when it's night buses stop running at 12 and i can't get home unless i ride home and it's usually realll far away from my house, and not to discriminate/ stereotype most girls, but we don't uuuuusually ride 20+ miles home in the middle of the night ;] so there's a suggestion. i may be speaking for myself.. dunno

you would think so...but our ride starts at 430p we always meet up with a night ride and yet no ladies...well other than the 4 that alwys show (BatGirlKarla, ImaChynna, Puglife & me)....but we have been trying, or at least i have, to get our girl friends to come for you guys

oh and we manage just fine peeing with out the funnel. plus, think about it, unless it's disposable (which would be useless if it was, considering the frequency of peeing when drinking&riding), we'd be carrying around piss residue in our purses... i like trying to aim my pee though, i've been getting really good at it

Dudes and dudettes - just come to C.R.A.N.K. Mob and introduce yourselves to each other. I meet new girls there every time.
What I think would work as a "dating ride" and a way of getting more girls to come to rides that otherwise wouldn't, would be an early afternoon Sunday ride on the beach (SM + Venice). There's tons of girls riding around on bikes at that time anyway (and a lot of them aren't just tourists), and if you promise people a big fun ride with social activities they'd be totally down for it. Next thing you know they're trading in their beach cruisers for fixies and learning to pee in bushes.
The only problem is getting the word out to these people that otherwise don't even realize the "bike scene" exists. Any ideas?
