We normally stay in Ensenada Friday thru Sunday getting a taxi ride to Rosarito morning of the ride, bike riding back into Ensenada, there is a avid course that they claim is not a race - but it's very fast! It separates the fastest riders from those less experienced, making the event safer for all riders. Elite riders are staged in a corral in front of the main field and begin at the same time as the main field. Elite status is only for experienced riders (TEAM MIDNIGHTRIDAZZ) and means you can and will average at least 17 mph over the course of the event, finishing in less than 3 hours.
also, i like to do this ride as a mosey. to race it (which team mr isn't all that into) would be to rush through a very pretty ride and finish it in a short time. 50 miles goes by real quick.
partying on the ride in MR fashion is the way to do it. once in ensenada, the planned festivities are typical and lame.
and a weekend in ensenada? i don't know if i trust myself enough. i doubt i'd survive that playground!
hmmm. riding to rosarito beach from LA (150 miles) would be a good 2 full days of riding, and then the day of the ride, another 50, and then getting back to the border from Rosarito beach to a train bound for LA, plus any layover, play days... this is turning into a major expedition.
i'd be good with (thursday night) train or car to SD... ride to Rosarito Beach day before (friday) and crash in a hotel (if available). Do the ride (saturday) to ensenada, play and catch a supplied van back to rosarito beach and ride to TJ or SD that night. Sunday play in SD and head back to LA.
