Bikers Vs SUV Road Rage In NY

What a tragedy. The man who now is paralyzed in ICU and the family man who got beat to a pulp for protecting his family.
Those two men did not deserve this but the video clearly shows who instigated the whole thing. If I was the driver, I would of taken the clearest line and bailed out of there before the bikers got any where near my family, hopefully not hitting anyone. However, I do not feel as bad for the critically injured biker as I do for the driver who was just taking his family out. These bikers where not being kind, considerate, or law abiding. They were not sharing the road. The swarm mentality took over and because one asshole stopped short in front of the SUV and then the rest of the bikers stopped and proceeded to slash the mans tires, the man freaked out, slammed on his accelerator, and this shit happened.
I been on rides where cyclist have such swarm mentality and they don't respect the motorist, and I hope to never see or hear of a driver who blows a fuse and mows down the cyclist. Stay to your right, share the road, obey traffic laws, and don't be a dick.
I hope they both make it through and that no charges are brought against the driver, and that those who were the clear aggressors pay for their fellow biker's hospital bills as well as the drivers hospital bill and for the damage to his car.

I have seen something like this happen a few times on rides.
With people walking and in a cars.
Yes..with the mowing over people.
It was not pretty and it was all that drivers fault. You can't try to move people off the road in a car regardless if they are in your way for a few minutes.
Until I see a picture of this dudes tires getting slashed I'm not buying it. A SUV at those speeds with slashed tires? C'Mon man.. I also want to know what happened before it all went down. You can see them going back and forth before anything happens. I know what happens after the video cuts but I want to know what happens before.

sorry - i am 100% suv on this one.
if i was part of that biking group, i would feel extremely bad that my mob mentality caused one of my own to be paralyzed.
the bikers were clearly angry that the suv didn't stop when he was surrounded by bikers. the suv guy was clearly frightened by being surrounded and didn't know how to respond. the first guy clearly brake checked the suv and the biker opening the car door when he stopped was clearly coming at him aggressively.
furthermore, the guy was clearly in flight mode when he took off, causing the more serious accident.
fuck these guys. no sympathy from me.

i'm not buying the tire slashing either, but i think that is just a bit of mis-reporting. i don't think seeing anything before the incident will show anything more than a pack of bikers over taking an suv on the freeway.
i'm a driver and a biker and i would be terrified in that situation. what do you do? do you pull over with out fear that someone will be passing on your right? do you just stop, knowing that you might cause a rear end pileup of bikers?
do you try to go as slow as possible and white knuckle it until they have all passed? this is what i find most common.
huge rides freak me out when i'm a driver... the only reason i know what to do when faced with groups is that i have group ride experience.

I have seen people take it really well and just smile it out with a look of (this is cool) and I have seen people instantly flip out. I guess it depends who is behind the wheel. Thats kinda why I asked what happen between them.
Did the dude pull a "this is bullshit" and have a aggressive body language towards them or was he just kinda like alright this is happening. Im going to assume he get bent out of shape because he drives a Range Rover. Most people who drive Range Rovers are assholes. Dont believe me....look at the body language of people in them next time.
Both parties are in the wrong for something. But that guy made it much worse by running them over and almost running someone else over. Lets say he got away do you think he would have called the police and said... I ran over a dude in the middle of the freeway. Probably not.
It's just funny to me that the white van rolling in the same group just casually rolls through untouched when all of this is going on. In fact he goes through the group stopped untouched which leads me to believe that guy bit of more than he could chew and it got real serious real quick for him.

I can’t comment on this particular incident, but I can attest to mob mentality. A couple of years ago I was on a group ride at night when we went through Toluca Lake, right in front of Bobs Big Boy, when the group swarmed this one frighten women in an suv because, “ god forbid she should have the right to use the road with a hundred or so cyclist, who does she think she is?”, all I could hear was “don’t let her get away”, let’s face it, often times we do think we own the road.

I think the driver did not know how to handle a huge pack coming by. Nonetheless, the biker brake checked the rover and got bumped. Once the swarm came along it is hard to say that one should just stay put and not do anything to aggravate the riders. From my own experience of being attacked by a mob while in a car, with windows shattering around us with my mom and sis in the back seat, my dad floored it and we broke thru and got away. It was ultra scary, when we stopped a few blocks away, both my sis and mom were covered in glass and blood, but overall ok. We saved a couple of the bricks that ended up in our car. We went back a few days later and I could see the black skid marks our car made when we punched it. I absolutely know that my dad saved us from the mob that day. If this were me in the rover, I would have done the same thing. No pity for the guy that got hit. When it comes down to it, how are you going to go? Just sit meekly and get pulled out of the car, beat up or even worse killed? With your wife and 2 yr old daughter in the rig with you? I'm not, I will fight to the end to protect my family and I will use my car to get to safety even if I am running on bare metal rims. Once attacked, all bets are off and I will do what I have to do to get away.

I have to admit y'all know how crazy and angry I get but when it comes to bike rage/road rage you are really going to get farther with people teaching them how to drive around bicycles...smiling...waving them by, I try to give peace signs when a car does something nice like pass with a lot of room. And when they don't give me a lot of room I have the choice at the next light I see them at to rage on them and make them want to have more disdain for my life on a bicycle and not pass any less close, or to be like "hey bro try to give me three feet, peace." and show them a little humanity and hopefully not put other bicyclists that are on the road in danger as well.
it was an awesome female MoM ridaa who taught me that. bike love. be nice.

No shame in my game... I can't speak for anyone else but you got me... I'm a dick to all my friends and they give it right back to me.
