I'm taking Megabus up to Oakland tomorrow and it says they don't take bicycles. I have heard otherwise from friends.

Has anyone taken their bike on Megabus? Should I box my bike? How do I go about doing that?

Yes, I understand it is their stated [crappy] policy to not allow bikes.

BUT I've heard from a few sources that IF the bus is relatively empty and they have ample space in the baggage area, the driver is often cool about it. You have a good chance on late nite busses.

To be on the safe side, is it possible for you to box or bag it? If you are riding to the station, maybe take along a big military surplus duffel sack, and some tools to break it down. I bet if you bagged it, it wouldn't be a big deal. Just a thought.

editorial remark: How fucking stupid is that policy!? They want people out of their cars and on their bus... but WTF do you do once you get there?? LAME.

I'm thinking of an overnight trip anyway, but I figured boxing the bike would be easier for all parties involved, especially if I show up and the bus is packed.
