Somebody got creamed on Laurel Canyon last night.
Saw it on the news this morning. Was a silver dual suspension mountain bike I think. Only half of it was left for the picture. Story said car hit cyclist at 35 mph launching him 8 feet in the air.
Driver did not stop.
Anyone know anything further about this one?

yeah riding my bike has progressively gotten worse. i'm going from about 8 close calls a day to 8 close calls per zip code.

Wow... RIP.
I live right up the street from the scene and used to frequently ride that stretch of road. Hopefully they can capture this guy!

More motherfuckers that think driving is a right and probably can't even properly navigate a shopping cart down a Food4Less aisle, let alone a 2,000 lb vehicle.
Sucks for the cyclist and may they RIP, but as for this shit, it seems to be getting extremely out of hand and aside from TIC 4 TAC violence, nothing else seems to be capable of stopping it short of legislative action.

All experienced Midnight Ridazz use lights. We know that lights are the most important accessory to have on our bikes... even more so than helmets. Even with lights we are still in danger.
When I'm driving a car at night nothing is as infuriating as seeing a bicyclist without lights on a dark street wearing dark clothes. Just last night I saw someone like this and he was talking on his cel phone!
I'm not sure what point I'm trying to make here, other than we are at enough risk riding responsibly. Please do everything you can do to make yourself seen at night!
Take a look at this screen grab of the mountain bike that the rider was on... I don't see any lights on it at all.

yes there does not appear to be lights.
we don't know enough information to say if this fallen ridaa made himself visible.
from this picture he also appears to have been riding with out a back wheel.
However, it is safe to say that many if not most ridazz i see out on the road don't really do lights or have very good ones.
(I just bought a friend who is usually under-illuminated a bright ass light set at O20 for $35 for his b-day) nothing says love like safety equipment.

Yeah, who's got a bike we can use to make a ghost bike? I can't imagine what it's like to be hiding the fact that you killed someone...I don't know how they'd find the driver...do people leave their consciences at home when they get in the car? Rest in Peace, rida.
Let's get this ghost bike up ASAP! Who can come thru with a bike?

that intersection is dangerous! theirs been times where I almost been hit trying to cross the street and theirs been times as a driver where I (and other drivers) have stopped suddenly to avoid hitting somebody crossing the street. :/
fuck driving im giving up my car for 2010.
sticking to my bike and the bus all the way.

Why is it when a pedestrian is hit, you hear about it for days and rewards $$$ is offered, and the cops go on a rampage to find the driver, but when a cyclist is hit it might make a 5 second blip on the news, and done and done. WTF? Just say'n
