we ought to cubCAMP one of these days, too. I know of a killer hotspring accessible by some awfully nice mountain biking in Santa Barbara, which can also be legally accessed by even a 2wd vehicle so long as it has reasonable clearance.

A support van will be rented to transport Cubzz out to SB from the Bikerowave. The van will carry supplies, tools, and foodstuffs (bring your own) for most if not all of the route.
We are suggesting a $5 donation, but its not required. If you want to give more, that will be MUCH appreciated.

"Who mentioned a spot in SB with nice mountain biking and a hot spring. PLEASE PLEASE tell me where, how, directions, etc. "
You are looking for little caliente hot springs. Big Caliente springs is piped into a big concrete tub and is totally lame, but you can prk right there. Little Caliente requires a bike or hike for a mile or so from the nearest campground. Little may be called 'upper caliente' and big may actually be 'lower caliente.' I can't remember. Google is your friend.
To get there by car, just go up 154 to the top, hang a right onto East Camino Cielo and keep going as it winds along the ridge and then down to the upper side of the reservoir. I can't remember what the road is called once it starts to descend. If you google
As for great mountain biking in the area, you can't really miss. From the campground, you can ride a connector road up to the road up to little pine and then take santa cruz trail down to paradise road, but that'll leave you with a good bit of climbing to get back to where you can descend back to your campground. You may be better off driving back out and then dropping down one of the several great singletracks and then taking a ireroad back up to your car. I'd suggest the Angostura trail and the gibraltar fire road back up or the snyder trail down from knapps castle and then the fireroad whose name I forget back up. If you google up "santa barbara mountain biking" or ask at a local bike shop, you can get all the details. Trail conditions varied pretty wildly from year to year and it has been many years since I've ridden in the area, so you'd be very wise to check in with local cyclists before heading down any trail I could point you to, in any case.
Trails to ask about, in descending order of amazing-ness (these are all on the backside of the mountains, where the riding is better and the temps warmer)
Little Pine/Santa Cruz trail
Angostura trail
Snyder Trail
Camuesa Connector
If you are up for a drive, the Davy Brown trail on figueroa mountain is absolutely phenomenal.
I believe someone also opened a terrain park outside of Los Olivos that has upwards of 20 miles of singletrack, too, but that's just hearsay. You'd need to ask around to confirm.

REMINDER!!!
Tonight: Mobile dance party at the new BOX, meet at Bikerowave @ 8.30-9pm
Tomorrow: CUBLIFE 24/7/365. If you haven't started preparing for this ride you probably should have, also we are going to require that anyone attempting this ride on a fixed gear get proper bars (drops/bullhorns) and a front break, otherwise we won't let you ride. Sorry to be a dick, but we are very serious about this ride and have time "cutoffs" to make in order for everything to go down as planned, and flat bars + no brake will make the hill climbs/descents take way to long, not to mention possibly get you killed (no one wants that). Thanks for understanding.

While you're at, even try some gears! Seriously, though, that's a long ass, bad-ass ride. Major impressive if everyone's thinking of doing that ride fixed. Kanan Dume will be tough if you've got a tall gear.

We might change the first major hill climb from Kanan Dume to Encinal Canyon road depending on traffic conditions when we arrive into Malibu.. Also, Encinal Canyon is a marginally shorter and less difficult climb...
By marginally i mean a 13 on a scale of 1-10 instead of 15...

I think that may have topped the Sink Ride.
Riding down PCH with the full moon over the ocean? I just got chills, I swear. I don't think I've ever seen anything so ridiculously beautiful.
Only one flat, no injuries and only B-Rad didn't make it all the way. (He did ride a century though!)
The 28 miles of hills through Malibu/Santa Monica mountains were fucking BRUTAL. At first, upon conquering Encinal Canyon Road, I said the hill was nothing compared to Sulphur Mountain Road. I was unaware of the ridiculous hill-age for the next 23 miles. OH GOD IT NEVER FUCKING ENDED.
Thank you to Eric and Marcus for making the route.
To Nicole for encouragement.
To Cole for inspiration because you are fucking INSANE.
To Richard for kicking my ass all day and being AWESOME.
To B-Rad because I really liked your attitude today. Tonight. Last night? Future past B-Rad?
To Eric for being so positive. I love it.
To RBI for the Regulations shirt and bombing hills under the moonlight.
But an extra special thanks to Richie and the Mobile Box. This ride wouldn't have happened without you. I will remember the past 20-some odd hours forever. Mostly because of you.

Wow.....uh...........Wow.
Holy Johnies....
The best ride/route/raping and pillaging of my legs/eyefuls of amazing sights/future-past experiences that haven't happened until yesterday/unrelenting hills/roll through the F-ing valley, that I have ever witnessed.
Thank You Cubbies!

bikeforum peoples tend to do a similar route, but reversed, and take the train back to la from santa barbara. maybe keep that in consideration for cub life part 2.
