It's pretty much like this:
Anyone who wants to start a ride is more than welcome to anywhere in the world. You must start at 9pm PST, must ride 40 miles and you also must send a picture via camera phone at the beginning, each stop and end of the ride to either the email which we will list or the telephone which we will also list. As the photos come in, they will be posted LIVE on midnight ridazz. This is a week 5: The most difficult our 5 week cycle.
Speed is encouraged, safety is key but fun is a must.

I rode the "forty acres and a mule ride." It was only me out here in little mountain, south carolina. Its all kinds of rolling ups and downs. It is really cold and raining hard. It rained the whole time. I took four pictures on a digital camera that I borrowed....but I didn't borrow the cable that connects to the computer. So, I will get the cable in tomorrow, and post the pics.
This was a cold, super dark, rain drenched, lonley ride on the back roads of rural South Carolina....
Man....that was crazy....only 15 or 20 cars passed by the whole 40 miles.....otherwise it was darker than the inside of my closet at night. I can't wait until you all see the beater bike I rode. I got lost briefly, but got back on track after a fifteen minute side trip. I've got the shivers....time for some hot coffee. I'm curious to see houw the ride goes with everyone else.
So, I'll get the pics to you as soon as I get the cable for the camera!
Yeyyyyoeeeeew!!

I ran the 1st annual SD Fantom 40 here in beautiful Golden Hill in San Diego. Which, since it's been raining pretty hard and I'm the only one riding; basically turned out to be me doing 40 laps around the laundry room in the basement of my building. It was either that, or roll around the neighborhood looking for a 40. I even did a victory lap for Nicole.
I have some footage, but can't find the damn cable to download it. It's the thought that counts though, uh right?
Anyway, congratulations to all the winners in their respective locales. And to everyone else ..... you're winners too in my book!! It's just not published yet.

Sounds like the conditions I've been encountering in the desert for the last, few months.
It's about 28degrees and blowing up here.
Go outside, keep the vandals at bay every hour.
Come back in here and monitor the evolving situation on the ground as usual.
Stay dry and no sniffles.

reply
Yeah, bentsrider...nice to hear from you, man.
And, UPs to Drew and Creative thing for doing the ride and run....
Man....I was hating this ride while I was riding for most of the time....I don't know the roads. There are no street lights and its raining hard. But, now that I'm back, I feel good. Would I do it all over again just like I did it....probably not. It would have been good to ride with one other person. I'm not even Cub Camp.. lols.
Overall, it was a good excuse to get a ride in on my three week vacation. From here on out, I won't be riding until I get back. The bike I rode could be minimally defined as a working bike.
So, when I come back....and scout the dark cen rides...you cub camp fuckers better come along with me.
[laughs]

damn I just got it, 5 am here, I've been sitting under an awning at my undergrad, which happened to be just past my half way point on my ride, 23 mile mark to be exact. My second planned stop, My plan was to stop and talk to an old friend who works night security there, and just stay a few minutes, but as I rolled in it was starting to sprinkle, less than 5 minutes there and it started to rain so hard we couldn't see across the parking lot.
This kept up for the next 2 hrs, when my dad, who was woken up by the NOISE the rain was making on his roof, called me and asked if I wanted a ride. The rain has slowed a bit, but the water is still at least 3 inches deep on most roads, as it hasnt rained seriously here in so long all the drains are clogged. I just got in, at 440 to be exact...
Damn I was having a good ride too.
My cameraphone pics I sent to richie weren't going through, so i'll post the couple I took on my actual camera when I find a cable to get them off. Most of them are of sheets of water obscuring crap in a darkened parking lot.

hellyeah. that was an awesome nationwide ride. my ride was pretty repetitive (same 1-mile circle 40-times over) but the wind was enough to make an exciting-ish challenge. thanks to Jean-Claud who came out and joined me for half of the ride. besides that, it was just me and the wind.

Long ride with some depressingly powerful headwinds up some long and steep hills. The way down Palisades Dr. was beautiful, so steep, and fast it reminded me of zoobomb, except this ride down hill went on and on, a beautiful 1500 ft descent.

Gern, Brian, and I had a great ride. Riding trainers kept us really warm. We actually were stripping clothes off as we rode. Not going anywhere made it really easy for people to stop and talk to us about what we were doing.

Alec that sounds like a great idea, but I'm not sure I can ride 24 hrs, I'll go for it anyway. Our route brought us across the pier but because of a flat on Venice and Pacific, we didn't make it there until 10:20. We were able to meet up with K at the end.
Good news everybody, the cruiser I locked up in Venice 4 months ago is still there. I'm sure you are all relieved as I am, as well as disheartened. Venice used to be cool. You see crime is cool, Venice used to be filled with criminals, and therefore cool.

FRANZ AMEN!!!
the first problem is they got rid of the venice pavillion where the likes of Fingers Murray, Tim Jackson Jeff Hartsell Eric Dressen used shred and Dogtown heads would build ridiculous quarter pipes and launch ramps that only real skaters could skate, the real actual graffiti (not the bullshit toys that are there now) went up because you had to have status to even be painting there or you'd get jacked by V13 and you'd prolly get jacked anyway, the crack bums the dirt piles the pee smell... now the place is a fuckin JOKE. serious. it's like they clipped the balls off that place. no vibe at all left.
Roadblock12.21.07 - 1:01 pm

I see, I actually cut off the last two sentences of Venice topic. However I didn't think it to be on topic. However, I was happy never to be jacked while I live there. Considering how much it costs I probably never will again.
Now for the question of the year. If SM is the new Brentwood, and Venice the new SM, where did Venice go?
