Hey everyone - So this is something that has been on my mind for a few weeks and yesterday someone posted something on the LAFixed forum that made me decide to bring it up here... The post was about a Huntington Beach incident involving beach drunkeness and the 2 resulting drowning deaths.
First off - I love the ocean. I love swimming in it and I love swimming at night. I love when rides end at the ocean and we all go swimming.
That said - it is the FUCKING OCEAN. Waves are strong and tides can be dangerous and when it's dark out and you're drunk (or even if you're not).... well you get the point.
Please remind the people you swim with to use the buddy system when in the water. Don't lose sight of the people you're with. Don't lose sight of your buddy. Don't let people swim out to far and make sure someone on the beach is keeping eyes out too. Have lights handy as well.
These are all very small ways of keeping an eye out for each other - lets keep the fun (relatively) safe and happy!
(ps - my friends in NY don't call me 'yiddish mama' for nothing ;)

Ah yes, all the love of the jewish mothers I grew up around back home...
But yeah, after living pratically on the ocean, working on it, over it, and dealing with sailors and such for years; I've learned one thing. Respect the fucking ocean. If you are not a strong swimmer, stay the hell out at night. Know your limits, and always use the buddy system at night.
Let's keep our swimming events incident free!
