BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND!
"The Friends of the Friendless"
We'll ride seeking out other random strangers on bikes and make them our leader! Follow them, at whatever pace (or slower), until we reach THEIR destination and voila! instant friend!
Bringing extra beverages will guarantee their loyal companionship.

So, since this will be an impromptu type of ride as we have no idea where our leaders will come from, does that mean that there will be no Cub Scout tonight? If it is still on, what time will you be rolling? (I have a committment til 8p in MDR).

Friggin good evening. We first met Christina who was on her way home from work at REI. We were going to follow her home (and she was literally blocks from her house) when another cyclist went by and we all (including our new friend Christina) went to meet another new friend. Christina was having such a good time that she spent the whole night with us which included riding back down where she worked! Then on Abbot Kinney we found another great new friend named Chet. Initially surprised by our group, he also felt the camaraderie and warmth that is at the heart of our community and actually invited us into his place and provided us with beers and a sampling of the music he's working on.
What i found interesting was, here is Christina, just taking this new experience all in at 12am in the morning, (and never in a million years would she have ever expected to be where she was with all these people) while, as far as Chet knows, she is just one of the regulars with Cub Camp too. All very surreal to me.
Thank you Marcus, Alex, Franz, etc. for bringing this back.
Pictures will be up tomorrow.

All recent silliness aside, it sounded like a cool, evening for y'all.
Randomly seeking out species and adapting them to the collective.
Ha'taks screaming towards unsuspecting villagers and spreading the influence of Goual'd.
Wraith hive-ships seeking out a new food source.
Yippers, y'all definitely hit the spot for tonight.
I gotta try something like that up here and see if it catches on.
Perhaps when the temp starts getting back up to 60-70 at night.

Two things i should have offered in hind-sight.
1. Offer E-rock my couch.
2. Offer to give Christina a ride home or escort her via bike back home (instead of having to ride alone at 1am).
I rarely am that short-sighted and regret not thinking of it at the time.

Thanks for the offer in hindsight.
It's no worry tho, I had a bed to sleep on prearranged so it all worked out quite well.

CUBCAMP IS KING.
my fav moments were:
(after realizing we had increased attendance by a factor of 5)
The energy expenditure friendly explosion at CHRISTINA! Alec, you Vegan Slut, I nominate you to be the Casper The Friendly Host because whatever you told her in the first 2 minutes made her stay for the next 3 hours.
Right after Christina's induction, we saw another Friend. We didnt want to risk stopping/turning/losing Christina, so we chanted him into our ride!
Los Cubs Amigos en espanol.
Light-writing revisited on the beach..
Franz's FUCKJOOSE.COM commercial. So powerful, so moving.
CHET! He actually said "This is the best day of my life." He said that! Is there any other ride/activity that can do that? Come on, now!
Friends,
I declare Thursdays to be a National Holiday. Or more specifically, I declare Thursdays at 9pm PST to be a National Moment of Fun.
Whatever you are doing at this time, be it riding Cubcamp or not, take a moment to reflect on the potential for fun.

Stevo,
Remember how Gary explained that to fix the non writing part of the image they did a flash at some point during the exposure. That got me to thinking, with a powerful bike light you could selectively paint in sections of the image.
So if you had Marcus go out and stand you could play a light up and down him and he would show up bright without having to stand there for the whole exposure. So, he could then move to some other area of the shot, and you could do it again. This way you could make a bunch of Marcuses doing stuff in one exposure.
Alex Thompson03.8.08 - 4:40 pm
reply
I love that idea Alex. We would need a good dark area. Although that beach area worked okay and had an interesting look with the arches but i think we need less light from the Pier.
I think you could also play with just illuminating parts of the body in different places. Maybe just light Marcus's face in 6 different places with the light effect around it. Or an illuminated leg here or an arm there, etc.

oooo i'm going to butt in here.. i loved those pics! i just got a lomography fisheye camera and there's a setting where i can hold the shutter open as much i want. you should show me what you come up with next. the ideas sound great =)
tomato03.8.08 - 6:49 pm
reply
I love the concept of lomography. I had an old lomo camera several years ago. Do you hang out at http://www.lomography.com/? I used to find some very impressive creativity there.
I'm not familiar with all the bodies but does the lomo have a way to keep the shutter open without camera shake? With us digital types, its all automatic.

Alright, I'm looking for poems. Specifically poems about Chet, or Christina, or Friends of the Friendless, or all three. I'll run ALL the submissions in pt 3, with the following restrictions:
1) Don't make that shit insanely long. I'll cut it, and I'll run tigher poems higher.
2) Too profane, too pornographic is gonna cause me problems with accomplishing other goals for Westside BikeSIDE (the straight activism) . . . so I reserve the right to turn down shit that might cause me problems.
You can include photos, or specify formatting. When I say poems, I'm including Marcus bombs and KNITTENS posts as within the scope of Midnight Ridazz poetry, so get WHYild.
Submit them here. Everyone who meets the guidelines gets there poem printed. I'll attribute them to your MR handle, unless you specify otherwise.
