Just moved down to the south bay from the valley and thinking of using this bikeway to get to/from work. Any comments on how this bikeway? Wont get a chance to ride it till next weekend, but it looks like all the street crossings are at street level...

Will be riding in the early am from redondo area (Aviation/Grant -ish)... and back early afternoon.

Are you referring to the "Laguna-Dominguez Trail" (that's what it's labeled as on my LA Metro bike map)?

If so, I rode it yesterday for the first time actually. I rode southbound from around the Crenshaw Green Line station down to Alondra Park / El Camino College, where the Class I bikeway ends.

Yes, there are several street-level crossings. Some of them are horribly placed in the middle of a block on really wide boulevards with no crosswalk or stop sign or anything to help you. It was pretty easy to cross them on a Sunday afternoon but I would imagine it might be harder during weekday rush hour (might have to go to the end of the block and cross there? I'm not sure).

The area it passes through is pretty ghetto, some parts are fairly isolated, and I saw lots of stuff belonging to homeless people along and on the bikeway (sleeping bags, tarps, etc. ... but I only saw 1 actual homeless guy there); still, I saw a few other riders and pedestrians and it seemed fairly safe, during the day at least.

The pathway itself is in surprisingly good condition. Compared to the Ballona Creek trail it's wider, much much more smoothly paved, fenced the entire length, and almost completely flat. You can go pretty fast on it if you want.

I hope that helps you out. This seems like a pretty neglected trail ... I was unable to find practically any information about it online before riding it myself. If they installed a crosswalk or some lights at the street-level crossings it would be one of the better urban cycleways in LA. I did notice that the markings on the path indicate that there are like 10 more miles left on the trail when it ends at Alondra Park and there are locked gates across the street, so I think it used to be much longer and they closed it off at some point.
